Troubleshooting
Make sure you're running the bundled runtime with stock zsh:
zsh -f dist/mograph-jailed.zsh --request /tmp/mj-request.txtThe -f flag skips your personal shell config, which keeps behavior deterministic.
project.ingest, expression.lint, and project.snapshot need the macOS system Python 3 at /usr/bin/python3. No packages are installed — it just has to exist. On a stock Mac it does.
Paths in request files must be absolute (/Users/you/..., not ~/... or relative). project.snapshot also requires the source to end in .aep.
The tool runs as you, with your permissions — it can't read files you can't read. Check Finder → Get Info → Sharing & Permissions.
The receipt isn't a valid MJ_PROJECT_SCRAPE_1 document (or exceeds the 8 MB cap). Re-run the scraper (AE Scraper) — receipts from older builds may predate the schema.
It renders your data. Empty panels mean no data yet:
- No snapshots → run
project.snapshotor install the Watcher. - No vitals/lint → scrape a project in AE (AE Scraper) and pass
--receiptspointing at the folder.
-
launchctl print gui/$(id -u)/com.neuralio.mograph-jailed.watcher— is it loaded? -
tail ~/AE_Versions/watcher.log— every fire is logged; errors appear here. - System Settings → General → Login Items — is
com.neuralio.mograph-jailed.watcherallowed in the background? - Remember: it fires on
.aepchanges, throttled to one scan per 30 seconds, max 2 levels deep.
You must pick a destination folder in the save dialog — the scraper never writes anywhere you didn't choose. If the dialog never appeared, the script may have been blocked: check After Effects → Preferences → Scripting & Expressions → "Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network" (write access is needed for the receipt).
Open an issue at https://github.com/NeuralIO444/Mograph_Jailed_OSX_CLI/issues with the command you ran and the full JSON response (error codes are stable and searchable).
