@Nezara Nezara released this 22 Oct 04:37

Version 1.0.4 of OpenCrown PC for Windows and Linux / Steam Deck (64-bit), and the first beta of OpenCrown Mobile for Android.

Downloads:

  • Windows: OpenCrownPC-v1.0.4-win64.zip. Unzip, run OpenCrownPC Launcher.exe.
  • Linux / Steam Deck: OpenCrown-Linux-1.0.4-x86_64.AppImage. Make it executable and run it. Needs glibc 2.35 or newer (SteamOS 3.5+, Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora, Arch).
  • Android (beta): OpenCrownMobile-v0.1.0-beta-arm64.apk. See OpenCrown Mobile below.

Already on v1.0.1 or newer on PC? Use the Update button at the bottom left of the launcher.

Steam Deck

  • Touch screen in Game Mode: Game Mode turns touches into mouse clicks for non-Steam games. Those clicks now steer the fairy pointer like a real touch: tap to send the fairy there and interact (doors, chests), drag to move it. Before, a touch could land as an attack.
  • Controller first: on a Steam Deck, mouse buttons no longer press game buttons, so a stray click is never an attack. The keyboard still works, and button prompts start on the controller. Both are on the launcher's Controls page ("Left clicks are fairy touches", "Mouse buttons press game buttons") if you want them changed.
  • With Steam Input on (the trackpad acting as a mouse), Game Mode doesn't tell the game where you touched. For the touch screen, add Touchscreen Native Support to the shortcut's controller layout: Action Sets → Add Always-On command → System → Touchscreen Native Support.

Bug reports

  • Reports now include your operating system's name and version (for example Windows 11 24H2 or SteamOS 3.6), so platform-specific problems can be found faster. Nothing that identifies your device is added, and Preview still shows exactly what is sent.

OpenCrown Mobile (Android, beta)

The first test build of OpenCrown for Android phones, tablets and handhelds. Expect rough edges and please send bug reports from its launcher.

  • Needs: your own decrypted PS Vita dump of Dragon's Crown (US, PCSE00019) with the 1.09 update, and an Android 9+ device with a 64-bit ARM CPU and Vulkan 1.1. A controller is recommended; on-screen controls appear while none is connected.
  • Install: allow installing from unknown sources, install the APK, then copy the base game to Internal storage/OpenCrown/dump/Game/ and the update to Internal storage/OpenCrown/dump/Update/ (a VitaShell app/ + patch/ layout works too). Allow "All files access" when asked.
  • Online: plays together with OpenCrown PC (Windows and Linux) through the same lobby server. Online play starts at the stables in town.
  • Saves move both ways, no conversion: Import PC save on the launcher's Save Folder page brings a PC save over, and Export save sends your Mobile save wherever you pick (Downloads, a USB stick, Google Drive...) to put into Documents\Dragons Crown Pro\saves\SAVEDATA00\ on the PC.
  • In town, tapping the screen opens the Town Map. That's how the Vita version works, not a bug.

Why the PS Vita version instead of the PS4 one?

  • Lighter to run. The Vita version draws at 960×544, a quarter of the pixels of 1080p, with assets made for a handheld.
  • Easier on phone CPUs. Phones use 64-bit ARM chips. Translating the Vita's 32-bit ARM code is much closer and cheaper than translating the PS4's x86-64 code (x86's stricter memory ordering is expensive to imitate on ARM).
  • Touch is already built in. The Vita version supports its touch screen natively, including the fairy pointer, so touch play works the way the game was designed.
  • Easier to dump. A Vita is far easier for most players to dump their own copy from than a PS4.
