@Nicoo01x Nicoo01x released this 23 Sep 15:54

Claude in a terminal now feels like a chat.

What changed

  • Terminals take the conversation's name. A terminal running Claude Code shows the title Claude gives the conversation (like "Fix login redirect") instead of "Claude Code", in the sidebar and in the pane header. A name you give the tab yourself still wins. The row also shows the branch, whether Claude is working or waiting for you, and the lines it has changed.
  • Get notified when Claude finishes in a terminal. When Claude Code finishes a turn in a terminal, you get the same notification a chat session gives: the chime, the files it changed, and a button that takes you back to that terminal. It also works for terminals you are not looking at, and it follows your notification settings.
  • "What do you want to do today?" Open a project in the sidebar and it asks what you want to do. Write the task and press Enter: Claude Code starts in a new terminal with it, and the tab names itself. The Claude terminals already open in the project are listed underneath, so you can jump back to one.
  • Resize the changes panel. Drag its left edge to make it wider or narrower (double-click puts it back); it keeps the width you set.
  • Fixed: switching terminals in a pane sometimes left the previous terminal's files in the changes panel.

Claude in any terminal, and a place to build your own.

What changed

  • See what Claude changes, from any terminal. Run Claude Code in a terminal, whether you started it from Zpace or typed claude into PowerShell, and Zpace notices. A panel opens beside the terminal with the branch and the files that changed, each with its +/− counts: This session shows what this Claude wrote, All shows everything uncommitted. Click a file to see its diff, then stage or revert it. The button in the terminal's header shows how many files changed and hides or shows the panel. Zpace only checks while the terminal is printing, so nothing runs in the background while it is idle.
  • Claude comes back after a crash. If Zpace closes with Claude open in a terminal (the machine switched off, the app crashed, or you just quit), the terminal reopens Claude with the same flags it had, like --dangerously-skip-permissions, --model or --permission-mode, plus -c, so the conversation picks up where it was. The first prompt is not sent again. If you exit Claude yourself, it stays closed.
  • The Studio. A full-screen mode, opened from the sidebar footer or the palette, where you build your own Claude Code setup: skills, subagents, slash commands, memory files (CLAUDE.md), MCP servers and hooks, for your ~/.claude or a project's .claude. Each one is edited in Claude Code's own format, so your other settings stay as they are. A builder chat beside the editors can write them for you, and Test runs a subagent as a real session.

Say it, and it happens.

What changed

  • Talk to Zpace. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space (⌘⇧Space on a Mac), or tap the microphone in the title bar, and an orb appears: say what you need — "open a terminal in the API project", "start Claude Code here", "move that note into the docs folder", "switch to dark" — and it does it and tells you so, out loud. It can also answer questions about your code: it reads files, it never runs commands or edits anything on its own. The assistant is a hidden Claude Code session that only sees Zpace's own tools, served by a tiny MCP server inside the app; hearing is local through whisper.cpp, fetched once (about 70 MB) into the app's data folder — nothing you say leaves the machine. Settings › Voice picks the microphone, the language and the model (Base answers in about a second, Small hears better), and lets you test the input. Voice transcription works on Windows and Linux for now.
  • Folders inside projects. A project's terminals, sessions, notes and boards can be grouped into folders in the sidebar: create one from the project's menu, drag rows into it or use Move to from any row, give it a colour, start something new right in it. Link a folder to a real folder inside the project and every terminal or Claude Code session you start there works in that path.
  • Copy and paste that always works. Copying a code block, a diff, a path, an answer or a terminal selection sometimes did nothing — the webview's clipboard depends on focus and a permission it does not always grant. Every copy and paste in the app now goes through the OS clipboard.
  • Dictation shows the words while you are still saying them, and its silence timeouts give you room to start.
  • The desktop island's "open Windows settings" links open the right page again.

Grab it, throw it.

What changed

  • Every dialog is a card you can grab. Settings, About, New project, the agent editor — take any of them from any point and it follows your pointer, shrinking into a thumbnail of itself from the spot you touched. Let it go far away, or throw it, and it flies off and closes; let it go near and it springs back into place. Escape, × and a click outside still close it, in place.
  • Everything that unfolds moves the same way. Menus, popovers, the sidebar's expanders and the fields of a form that just opened share the card's entrance and exit: a short rise into place, a quick fade out.
  • Reduced motion keeps all of it to fades, and nothing drags.

@Nicoo01x Nicoo01x released this 17 Sep 04:07

The window stays awake.

What changed

  • No more "not responding". Every command that talks to git, the disk or the network now runs off the window's own thread. The auto-fetch every five minutes, a git status on a folder OneDrive is still syncing, a search or the environment scan at launch used to hold the whole window until they answered — that was the freeze that hit mid-work. git also never waits on a credential prompt nobody can see.
  • The first terminal paints once. The first shell of a launch was measured with a stand-in font and reflowed when the real one arrived: a doubled, garbled prompt, and a Claude Code bar drawn twice at the bottom. The shell now starts once the final font is in and the pane has settled.
  • Working, visibly. While a shell or Claude Code is working, its row in the sidebar shows a small pixel grid coming alive (it replaces the grip — you can still drag the row), and the pane's header shows the grid with a label and the elapsed time. Quiet rows keep the grid dim: grey before the shell starts, green while it is up.
  • Paste pictures into Claude Code. Ctrl+V with an image on the clipboard now reaches the process, which reads the clipboard itself — the same as in Windows Terminal.
  • Claude Code follows your theme. On a light terminal its dark theme drew what you typed as a black bar. Before it starts, Zpace sets Claude Code's theme (in ~/.claude/settings.json, keeping a colorblind or ANSI variant you chose) to the terminal's side, so your messages sit on a light grey.

@Nicoo01x Nicoo01x released this 16 Sep 21:37

A phone on your desk.

What changed

  • Phone — a new plugin (Settings › Plugins › Phone): a floating phone over your workspace. Pick the device — iPhone SE, 14, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, Pixel 8, Galaxy S24, iPad mini, iPad Pro 11″, or your own size — type the URL of your dev server (or any site) and it loads at real mobile size: the exact viewport in CSS pixels, the pixel ratio, the user agent, touch instead of a mouse. The screen is a real browser cut to the device's corners, its Dynamic Island, notch or camera. Drag it anywhere, resize it from the corners, rotate it, pick a size from 50 to 150 %. Back, forward, reload, recent addresses; DevTools for the page; a screenshot to the clipboard, to a file, or straight into the active Claude chat.
  • Emulate more than the size. The sliders button opens a panel: light / dark / system, reduced motion, more contrast, colour-vision deficiencies (blur, protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia, achromatopsia), touch or mouse, network speed (fast 3G, slow 3G, offline), CPU slowdown, language, time zone, location (Buenos Aires, New York, London, Tokyo, Berlin). Everything applies at once and stays across reloads.
  • Plugins can float. A plugin pane declared with float opens as a frameless window over the sidebar and the workspace instead of a tile, remembers where it was, and comes back on the next launch. Its page moves and resizes itself through zpace.float.
  • Plugins can carry a real browser. With the browser permission a plugin page places native webviews over its own area (zpace.webview): any site loads, the view follows the page as it moves, hides under the app's menus and dialogs, can be shaped, device-emulated (any DevTools protocol method), snapshotted and screenshotted. The registry's README documents the whole API.
  • A plugin that says minZpace is refused by an older app instead of failing once open.

The device emulation and the shaped screen use WebView2, so they are Windows-only for now; on macOS and Linux the phone shows the page at the device's size in a plain rectangle.

The island leaves the window.

What changed

  • The island on your desktop — Settings › Desktop island. Flip the switch and the pill floats at the top (or bottom) of the screen, over every app, without ever taking the keyboard. Hold it and slide it along the edge; right-click it for its own menu.
  • It reads Windows. The toasts in the Action Center (with the app's logo — dismiss here, gone there). What Spotify, a browser or any player is playing: cover, track, progress, play/pause/next. The app that just opened ("Opened Google Chrome", with its icon) — fresh launches only, or every switch. The volume, as a bar you can drag. The battery: plugged in, unplugged, 20/10/5 %. Every copy, from any app, with a glimpse of what was copied.
  • And Zpace, as before. Finished turns, commits, pushes, errors and permission requests unfold in it; what Claude is doing right now sits next to the brand; plugin readouts too. A click goes to the session.
  • Yours to shape. Edge, size (compact / regular / large), look (black / graphite / accent), opacity. Which of the nine sources it announces; which readouts it shows at rest (time, date, track, agent, battery); how long a card stays; what it does when nothing happens (stay, shrink to a sliver, step off the screen); do not disturb.

Cards queue by priority: what needs an answer holds the pill, a passing moment (the volume, an alt-tab) never waits in line. Nothing polls — every source is event-driven and runs only while the island is on. The system readouts are Windows-only for now; on macOS and Linux the desktop island still shows what Zpace says.

Four things people ran into on day one.

What changed

  • Terminals keep running when their pane shows something else. Open a file or a note in the pane and the shell behind the tab stays alive; come back and everything it printed in the meantime is there. A tab's process ends only when you close the tab.
  • Ctrl+C copies the selection in the terminal (with nothing selected it is still the interrupt), like Windows Terminal. Ctrl+Shift+C / Ctrl+Insert copy, Ctrl+Shift+V / Shift+Insert paste.
  • Text weight — Settings › Appearance › Typography: Regular, Medium or Bold for the whole interface.
  • The first-run setup fits a small window: the theme step no longer overflows.

Since 0.1.3 the in-app updater works, so this one arrives on its own.

@Nicoo01x Nicoo01x released this 15 Sep 01:14

One fix, an important one.

What changed

  • Updating from inside the app works. On 0.1.1 and 0.1.2 the download reached 100 % and stopped: the updater plugin's pre-exit cleanup deadlocked on the app's state store, so the installer never launched. The check and the install now run through the app's own commands with a safe hand-over (the state file is written first, the tray icon goes, the window hides, the installer takes over and restarts Zpace).
  • If you are on 0.1.1 or 0.1.2, that build's updater still has the old path — download this one once by hand (below); from here on updates arrive in-app.

@Nicoo01x Nicoo01x released this 14 Sep 23:13

Two fixes worth a release on their own.

What changed

  • The close button quits. The window's close path ends in destroy(), and that permission was missing from the app's capabilities — so the ✕ (and "Quit" in the confirmation) did nothing. It works now.
  • The island stays out of the way in a narrow window. Readouts (the timer, the track playing) step aside one by one when there is no room, instead of running into the title-bar controls.

Everything from 0.1.1 is included: a real icon in the taskbar on Windows, SVG icons in island readouts, plugin icons in pane headers.
