It's not clear how mkPythonEditablePackage is supposed to be used. The method shown in the manual requires overriding the entire Python package set and then duplicating a lot of the packaging information from the "real" package you want to stub out.
Also, many packages have development dependencies in an optional-dependencies field, and it's not clear how to instruct mkPythonEditablePackage to install optional-dependencies (see #202948).
