Build failure: vmware-workstation

• Unstable (25.05)

Steps to reproduce

1. set virtualisation.vmware.host.enable = true;
2. rebuild system.

I cannot get hydra to show me the package, so ignore related responses. Searching vmware-workstation and vmware either causes a search error or does not locate the package in question, respectively.

Can Hydra reproduce this build failure?

Erm, I cannot tell what's wrong.

Did you read the message? It describes what you need to do since Broadcom locked the downloads behind a login.

If it's not that, please tell me.

I did read the message, but I didn't know such a thing was acceptable behaviour in nix since that's not declarative. I assumed it was unintentional, especially since the error message provides no context. Does this mean it's impossible to have a fully declaratively installation of VMware now? If so I would suggest the error message be expanded upon.

I'll go ahead and close the issue since it's intended behaviour.

It is still declarative and reproducable, just unfortunately not fully automatic.
Not much we can do without violating the license and risking Broadcom's legal action.
