0.2.0 — Watch the agent work

Pre-release

@NuCl34R NuCl34R released this 14 Sep 01:00

Open the agent's private Linux desktop whenever you want with:

linux-computer-use watch

The local browser viewer shows live frames and the current tool activity. Choose a session or display, pause the view, use fullscreen, or confirm Stop session to cancel active input and close owned private applications. Closing the viewer leaves the agent working and keeps your own keyboard and mouse independent.

The viewer supports native and rootless container MCP/CLI sessions. It uses private same-user sockets and authenticated loopback HTTP, with no recording or hosted service. Restart existing controllers after upgrading.

Image build and installation now prepare Podman's rootless user mapping before the MCP startup deadline. Custom image users can run linux-computer-use prepare before connecting their harness.

Validation: real private KWin, container Sway and Xvfb; animated frames during dragging; frame-ID preservation; capture-helper crash recovery; cancellation and cleanup; native CLI; browser pause/fullscreen/reload/stop; 24 input, installer and spectator boundary contracts. See docs/watch-validation.json and the Actions run for the exact scope. Physical Omarchy validation and macOS/Windows performance comparisons remain unclaimed.

This release also includes the removal of the dedicated Omarchy guide and the 0.1.1 installer backup fix. Future Omarchy ecosystem integration is outside this standalone project.

Extract linux-computer-use-0.2.0.tar.gz and run ./install.sh; use --update for an existing installation. SHA256SUMS verifies the download and MANIFEST.sha256 verifies its contents. The extracted installer was tested without Git metadata.

Public preview. See the support matrix and validation record for tested configurations.

@NuCl34R NuCl34R released this 14 Sep 01:00

Linux Computer Use 0.1.1 fixes duplicate skill discovery after updates and brings the downloadable preview up to date with the 20-tool runtime.

Changes

  • Updates create verified, owner-only .tar.gz backups under the XDG data directory instead of leaving discoverable copies beside active skills.
  • Existing installer-created skill backup directories migrate automatically during ./install.sh --update. User files, permissions and symlinks are preserved.
  • Native relative pointer input supports locked-pointer 3D camera controls on KWin, wlroots, X11 and RemoteDesktop portals.
  • The installer, container image version, README and architecture diagram now match this preview.

Install or update

Download linux-computer-use-0.1.1.tar.gz and SHA256SUMS, then:

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf linux-computer-use-0.1.1.tar.gz
cd linux-computer-use-0.1.1
./install.sh --dry-run
./install.sh --update

For a first installation, omit --update. Review the detection output; dependency installation and container builds remain explicit options. Git is not required after extraction.

Validation

  • 14 installer contracts and seven input contracts passed.
  • Actual SteamOS installation updated and its duplicate skill backup migrated; one discoverable skill remains.
  • Installed native KWin and rootless container Sway launchers passed real GTK/MCP tests: 20 tools, Unicode input, changed screenshot and exit.
  • Historical Ubuntu 24.04 Sway and Xvfb CI passed for this release commit; its reviewed results remain in the validation record.
  • Archive checksums, reproducible packaging, installation and update without Git metadata verified.

This remains a preview. The first container startup attempt timed out; a subsequent full GUI test and five startup checks passed. The GUI container run also logged a Python shutdown cleanup warning despite exiting successfully and removing the container. These observations are retained in the validation record. Omarchy workstation acceptance and comparative macOS/Windows performance measurements remain pending.

Linux Computer Use 0.1.0 · Preview

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@NuCl34R NuCl34R released this 14 Sep 01:00

Linux Computer Use gives an agent a native Linux desktop through 19 shared MCP and JSON CLI tools. Private sessions keep the agent’s display, focus and clipboard separate from the user’s desktop.

This is the first preview. It remains available as a historical release; use 0.2.0 for the live viewer and subsequent installer fixes.

Included

  • Native KWin, KDE portal, Hyprland/Sway and X11 input/capture paths.
  • AT-SPI accessibility, Unicode input, scaled screenshot coordinates, cancellation and crash cleanup.
  • A universal per-user installer with distro/DE/Omarchy/immutable detection, native/container routing, explicit dependency recipes, transactional updates and manifest-checked removal.
  • A rootless graphical container runtime for immutable desktops.
  • English and French documentation, real GUI evidence, original generated masthead, architecture diagram and contributor guides.

Validation

  • Thirteen-report original Linux E2E baseline.
  • Full installed-skill MCP/GUI suites on independent Ubuntu 24.04 GitHub Actions runners, using Sway and Xvfb.
  • Ten installer contract tests and six runtime/transport contract tests.
  • Actual native and container launcher acceptance tests on SteamOS.
  • Extracted source archive, checksum manifest, standalone installation and native GTK/MCP acceptance test.

Omarchy physical-workstation acceptance remains pending. No macOS/Windows performance comparison is claimed.

Install from the archive

Download linux-computer-use-0.1.0.tar.gz and SHA256SUMS from this release, then:

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf linux-computer-use-0.1.0.tar.gz
cd linux-computer-use-0.1.0
sha256sum -c MANIFEST.sha256
./install.sh --dry-run
./install.sh

Read the installation guide for missing native dependencies or --runtime container --build-container. The archive requires system Python 3.10+; Git is not required after extraction. The container image is built locally rather than downloaded from a registry maintained by this project.

Historical preview. Physical-workstation validation remains limited to the published evidence.
