Atlas3 3.0.0 Release Notes
Atlas3 3.0.0 is the first application release from this repository. It delivers a modern Vue-based Atlas experience for the core observational research workflows and moves the principal analytics tools into a unified Analysis Hub.
These notes are intended for Atlas 2.x users and administrators. They compare the user-facing functionality in the Atlas 2.x application with the current Atlas3 3.0.0 release baseline. They are not a statement of WebAPI endpoint compatibility or a deployment guide.
Available in Atlas3 3.0
Cohorts
- Browse, search, filter, create, and edit cohort definitions.
- Build cohort expressions with CIRCE criteria, inclusion rules, concept sets, metadata, tags, access controls, and version history.
- Generate cohorts against selected data sources.
- Import and export cohort JSON, inspect generated SQL, and produce print-friendly cohort output.
- Continue using legacy cohort-definition URLs; Atlas3 redirects them to the cohort workspace.
Concepts and concept sets
- Search the vocabulary and inspect concept details, hierarchies, and related concepts.
- Create, edit, import, export, compare, optimize, tag, and version concept sets.
- Open legacy Atlas 2.x search and concept URLs; Atlas3 redirects them to the Concepts experience.
Analysis Hub
The Analysis Hub consolidates the major analysis list views in one navigation area.
- Characterizations: configure cohorts, feature analyses, concept sets, and strata; run analyses and review results.
- Feature analyses: create and manage prevalence, distribution, and custom SQL feature-analysis designs.
- Pathways: design pathways, generate analyses, and review pathway visualizations and results.
- Incidence rates: design incidence-rate analyses, set study windows and time at risk, execute analyses, and review stratified results.
- Atlas3 preserves redirects for the legacy Characterizations, Feature Analyses, Pathways, and Incidence Rates URLs.
Profiles and data sources
- Search for people by source and review patient demographics, clinical events, timelines, filters, and cohort-scoped profiles.
- Review data-source dashboards, data density, demographic, observation-period, death, and clinical-domain reports.
Administration and platform capabilities
- Manage roles, permissions, role membership, and entity access controls.
- Manage data-source configuration and tags from the configuration panel, subject to permissions.
- Monitor background jobs from the Jobs panel.
- Create and revoke personal API keys.
- Use version-preview routes for supported versioned assets.
- Use the plugin framework to add supported analysis and administration extension points.
- Use available localization and accessibility-oriented application infrastructure.
Atlas 2.x to Atlas3 Functionality Matrix
| Navigation area | Atlas 2.x function | Atlas3 3.0 status | Atlas3 location or behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cohort Definitions | Browse and edit cohort definitions | Available | Cohorts (/cohorts) provides list, builder, generation, JSON, SQL, tags, permissions, and legacy URL redirects. |
| Cohort Definitions | Samples, reports, and cost/utilization workflows | Partial | Atlas3 contains cohort sample and reporting surfaces, but sites should validate the specific report and cost-utilization workflow they use before migration. |
| Vocabulary and Concept Sets | Vocabulary search, concept details, and concept-set authoring | Available | Concepts (/concepts) combines search, concept sets, comparison, import/export, optimization, and detail views. |
| Characterizations | Design, execution, results, and versioned characterizations | Available | Analysis Hub > Characterizations with legacy URL redirects. |
| Feature Analyses | Manage reusable feature-analysis definitions | Partial | Analysis Hub > Feature Analyses supports prevalence, distribution, and custom SQL designs. Validate specialized legacy feature-analysis designs and downstream execution/result workflows during migration. |
| Pathways | Design, execute, and inspect pathway analyses | Available | Analysis Hub > Pathways with generation and result visualizations. |
| Incidence Rates | Design, execute, and inspect incidence-rate analyses | Available | Analysis Hub > Incidence Rates with study-window, time-at-risk, stratification, and result views. |
| Estimation and Prediction | Population-level estimation and patient-level prediction analyses | Not available in v3.0 | Atlas3 and WebAPI 3.0 do not provide estimation or prediction analysis workflows. |
| Profiles | Patient-level profile exploration | Available | Profiles (/profiles) supports source, person, and cohort-scoped views. |
| Data Sources | CDM dashboards and domain/data-density reports | Available | Data Sources (/datasources) provides report selection and drilldown views. |
| Configuration: sources | Source administration and source status | Relocated/changed | Configuration is consolidated into the Atlas3 configuration panel instead of the Atlas 2.x configuration routes. |
| Configuration: roles and permissions | Roles, users in roles, permissions, and entity access | Available | Roles (/config/roles) and the configuration panel provide role and permission management. |
| Configuration: tags | Tag and tag-group management | Relocated/changed | Tag management is available from the configuration panel; tagging is no longer a separate primary navigation area. |
| Jobs | Background-job monitoring and status | Relocated/changed | Job monitoring is provided in the Jobs panel rather than the dedicated Atlas 2.x Jobs page. |
| API keys | Personal API-key management | Available | API Keys (/profile/api-keys). |
| Tools | Create, edit, and publish custom external-tool links | Not available in v3.0 | Atlas3 has no equivalent Tool Manager route, view, or service. |
| Reusables | Browse and manage reusable analysis components | Not available in v3.0 | Atlas3 has no standalone Reusables browser or manager. |
| User Import | LDAP/Active Directory import wizard, group-to-role mapping, and scheduled import jobs | Not available in v3.0 | Atlas3 has no equivalent user-import workflow. |
| Feedback | Embedded feedback-submission page | Relocated/changed | Atlas3 uses an external feedback link rather than an in-application feedback form. |
Status definitions:
- Available: Atlas3 has a corresponding user-facing workflow.
- Relocated/changed: The workflow remains, but its navigation or interaction model changed.
- Partial: A corresponding Atlas3 surface exists, but specialized Atlas 2.x behavior should be validated before migration.
- Not available in v3.0: No corresponding Atlas3 user interface or service surface was identified.
Functionality Not Carried Forward from Atlas 2.x
- Custom Tool Registry: Atlas 2.x administrators could manage a registry of external tool links and their visibility. This manager is not included in Atlas3 3.0.
- Reusables Manager: The standalone browser and manager for reusable analysis components is not included in Atlas3 3.0.
- LDAP/Active Directory User Import: The Atlas 2.x wizard for directory-user import, group-to-role mapping, scheduling, and import-job history is not included in Atlas3 3.0.
- Population-Level Estimation and Patient-Level Prediction: Estimation and prediction analysis workflows are not included in Atlas3 or WebAPI 3.0.
- Embedded Feedback Form: Atlas3 directs feedback to an external form rather than hosting an in-application submission page.
Navigation and Workflow Changes
- Analysis Hub: Characterizations, Feature Analyses, Pathways, and Incidence Rates are grouped under one analysis navigation area.
- Configuration panel: Administrative capabilities are consolidated into a permission-aware panel instead of multiple dedicated configuration routes.
- Jobs panel: Job monitoring is available from a panel rather than a standalone page.
- Concepts workspace: Vocabulary search, concept-set work, comparison, and concept details are consolidated under Concepts.
- Legacy links: Common Atlas 2.x URLs for cohorts, characterizations, feature analyses, pathways, incidence rates, vocabulary search, and concepts redirect to their Atlas3 equivalents.
Migration Considerations for Administrators
- Replace Atlas 2.x directory-import workflows with the identity-management and user-provisioning process appropriate to the deployment's WebAPI and authentication configuration.
- Inventory custom Tool Registry links before migration and publish them through site documentation, portal navigation, or another approved local mechanism.
- Plan an alternative workflow for population-level estimation and patient-level prediction analyses before migration; they are not available in Atlas3 or WebAPI 3.0.
- Validate site-specific cohort reports, cost/utilization reports, specialized feature analyses, and operational job workflows before production cutover.
- Update bookmarks and training material to reflect the Analysis Hub, Concepts workspace, configuration panel, and Jobs panel.
Comparison Basis
The comparison was derived from the Atlas 2.x navigation inventory in C:\Git\Atlas\js\pages\main.js and its feature modules, and the Atlas3 route inventory in C:\Git\Atlas3\src\router\routes.ts with the associated views and components. The omissions section is intentionally limited to functions for which no corresponding Atlas3 route, view, or service surface was identified.
