How to get started with Loom

Before reading this page, if you have not done so, complete the OPEnS lab safety training. Make sure you finish all of it before you get started on any work.

This page is for newly hired employees to get adjusted and settled into the Loom project. We know that there are many questions and concerns you might have and this page is meant to answer any basic questions about the lab and how to get started.

Questions you might ask yourself:

  • Where do we find information about Loom?

    • For a list of all the projects, go to the OPEnS project list website. On this page, you will also find links to the Github documentation. This documentation contains information about the projects, who is working on it, updates and progress, as well as pictures and code associated with the project.
  • How do we get caught up with Loom?

    • The first thing you would want to do is look at your project's documentation in Github. Find your project on the OPEnS website and click on the picture to go to the project documentation.
    • Once you have done that, you should have a good picture of what the project is about. If you have any technical questions that aren't clear from the documentation, you can also talk to the project lead and members which is listed at the top of the Github page.
  • What are all the different staff resources?

    • If you have completed the safety training, Cara should have given you access to the lab resources. There are several resources the OPEnS lab uses to help facilitate the project and keep things running smoothly:
      • Github: Main website to document progress and information for each project. Github contains updates, pictures, models, and code about the project and how it progresses week to week.
      • Basecamp: OPEnS team's project management resource. Through Basecamp, members are able to communicate to other members of the project and the team.
      • Google Drive: Cloud drive to store the OPEnS lab files. In addition to the general lab documents, the Google drive also contains project specific documents-- including timelines, BOM, kits, posters, etc.
      • OPEnS lab email list: Method of communication for department related correspondence.
