Grab the right download

Browser File Install
Firefox 142+ HexStream-Filter-0.3.0-firefox-signed.xpi about:addons → gear → Install Add-on From File… → select the XPI.
Chrome 120+ HexStream-Filter-0.3.0-chrome.zip Extract into a permanent folder → chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked → folder containing manifest.json.

Reload Twitch tabs, then open HexStream → Manage your rules. Add rules or Import JSON, review them and Save rules. Firefox's signed XPI stays installed through restarts; no Mozilla developer account is needed to install it. Chrome uses an unpacked extension, and its folder must stay put.

Updates are manual. Export saved rules privately before updating, install over the existing Firefox copy or reload Chrome from the same folder, then reload Twitch. The unsigned Firefox ZIP is for temporary development loading. The Source ZIP contains code, tests, licenses and detailed guides. SHA256SUMS.txt covers the downloads.

Why bother?

Unwanted Twitch got the useful idea right: let people block what they don't want. Credit to kwaschny for the workflow and compatible list format.

HexStream was built independently to add full supplied-tag coverage, clear list navigation, inspectable matches and simple character-filter controls. A card only has room for a few tags. The response can contain more. Those other tags still fucking count. HexStream checks every tag Twitch supplies, without opening every stream or making extra API requests. The inspector labels incomplete coverage honestly.

Feature What it does
Four blocking lists Tags, Titles, Users and Categories, with exact/contains/regex matching.
Languages 36 writing-system presets with independent Tags/Titles/Users checkboxes. Existing Unicode range expressions stay intact as custom rows.
Whitelists Always-allow channels and narrow user/title/tag exceptions.
Bring your lists Compatible Unwanted Twitch/HexStream JSON imports; review before saving and export saved settings.
Inspect and pause Compact card controls, recent “Why hidden?” explanations and a global filtering toggle. No extra sidebar buttons.
Stable navigation Partial player responses, missing chips and cache expiry can't erase a connected card's known complete tags.
Local rules Empty defaults, local storage, bounded memory caches, no telemetry or credential collection.

Character presets detect written characters, not spoken language. Missing metadata cannot be invented. Phone-only language/emoji/followed-account controls are not silently imported as browser features. Advanced regex dialects can differ between browsers and Android.

Want this on your phone?

HexStream for Android → is the Xtra-based sibling: global filtering, stable category pagination, saved accounts, playback proxies, swipe controls and low-delay playback. Thanks to Xtra and its contributors for that app's foundation. Lists transfer explicitly where compatible; there is no automatic phone/browser sync.

Validation

  • 98 automated tests and 57 Firefox/Chrome browser checks passed.
  • Zero Mozilla validation errors or warnings. Firefox is Mozilla-signed for self-distribution here, without a public store listing.
  • Live filtering matched tags absent from visible cards in both browsers.
  • Audited signed executable bytes match the tested build. Personal lists, accounts, credentials and browser profiles are excluded; defaults are empty.
  • Built and packaged locally. No GitHub Actions minutes used.

Signed-in Following, all Twitch experiments and arbitrary other-extension combinations remain test-coverage limits. Verification and limits · Privacy · Credits
