Overview

This release provides ready-to-flash XiaoZhi AI Chatbot firmware for the two supported OpenNextion ESP32-S3 touchscreen panels:

  • ONX2432G028, 2.8-inch portrait display
  • ONX3248G035, 3.5-inch portrait display

Each release asset is a complete initial-flashing package for one exact panel model. It includes display, capacitive touch, dual-microphone, speaker, and Wi-Fi support for the XiaoZhi AI Chatbot firmware.

Release Assets

Download only the complete firmware image that matches the model printed on your panel.

These are complete initial-flashing images. Flash the matching file directly at address 0x0; no extraction is required.

Do not flash firmware built for one model onto the other model. The 2.8-inch and 3.5-inch panels use different display configurations.

Other OpenNextion or Nextion displays are not release targets for v2.2.6.

Flashing

  1. Download the BIN file for your exact panel model.
  2. Connect the panel with a data-capable USB cable.
  3. Flash the downloaded BIN file to address 0x0.

Example:

Replace <SERIAL_PORT> with your serial device and <FIRMWARE_FILE> with the release asset for your panel. If flashing cannot connect, enter download mode with the panel's BOOT and Reset controls, then retry.

First-Time Setup

After flashing, the device starts Wi-Fi provisioning when it has no usable saved credentials:

  1. Connect a phone or computer to the Xiaozhi-xxxx hotspot.
  2. Open http://192.168.4.1 if the captive portal does not open automatically.
  3. Select a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, enter its password, and save.
  4. Follow the on-screen activation prompt. The default firmware uses xiaozhi.me.

Start or stop a conversation by tapping the touchscreen or briefly pressing the BOOT button.

Notes and Limitations

  • Use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; ESP32-S3 does not connect to 5 GHz-only Wi-Fi.
  • This release contains only the two board-specific assets listed above.
  • Use a complete USB flash for recovery if the wrong firmware was installed.
  • AI-service and model settings are managed in the xiaozhi.me console after device activation.

Build from Source

For a custom build, select the ESP32-S3 target and the exact board in menuconfig:

idf.py set-target esp32s3
idf.py menuconfig

Open Board Type, then select one of:

  • OpenNextion ONX2432G028
  • OpenNextion ONX3248G035

Save the configuration, then build and flash:

idf.py build
idf.py flash monitor

This project is based on xiaozhi-esp32 and is released under the MIT License. Third-party components may have their own license notices.

Flashing third-party firmware carries a risk of device damage or data loss. Confirm that the firmware matches your panel model before installation.
