OpenFader v0.2.2 : Playback Fixes, Library Improvements & Performance Optimizations
This release focuses on making OpenFadeR more reliable, responsive and comfortable to use, with improvements across deck synchronization, track management, audio processing, waveforms, compact layouts and the ongoing Android companion work.
It also includes important changes to the cross-platform release pipeline.
A special thank-you to @efficientcommunication-png for the detailed testing, bug reports, usability suggestions and controller-mapping feedback that continue to help improve OpenFadeR.
Playback & Synchronization
- Fixed synchronization problems involving short loops, preventing synced decks from inheriting incompatible loop-wrap behavior.
- Improved deck synchronization and phase-following behavior.
- Optimized early playback and audio preparation.
- Improved instant doubles and shared playback resources.
- Refined audio processing and FX transitions for more reliable playback.
- Improved effect preparation and delay-reset handling.
Library & Track Management
- Added track metadata editing capabilities, including improvements to the track information workflow.
- Improved handling of library synchronization and missing tracks.
- Refined browser track lists, previews and related state updates.
- Improved preview invalidation so outdated previews are refreshed correctly.
- Introduced lazy browser-row handling to reduce unnecessary processing in large libraries.
- Improved persistence of BPM display precision preferences.
Waveforms, Beat Grids & Analysis
- Fixed beat-grid visibility issues in the overview waveform.
- Improved analysis processing and job scheduling.
- Limited concurrent bulk-analysis work to avoid unnecessary resource contention.
- Combined analysis passes where possible to reduce redundant processing.
- Optimized tempo scoring without intentionally changing detection results.
- Improved analysis caching and related track-data handling.
Performance & Audio Engine
- Reduced unnecessary allocations and processing overhead across playback and analysis.
- Optimized FX preparation and handoff between audio-processing components.
- Improved decoding cancellation.
- Reduced intermediate copying during stem processing.
- Cached normalization work to avoid repeated calculations.
- Improved shared resources used by instant doubles.
These optimizations aim to improve responsiveness and processing efficiency. They should not be interpreted as a verified reduction in total application RAM usage.
Interface & Touch Layouts
- Expanded responsive layout support.
- Improved compact and touch-oriented interface arrangements.
- Refined deck controls and visual presentation for smaller displays.
- Improved support for two-deck and four-deck compact configurations.
- Extended theme and interface adaptations for different screen sizes.
Android Companion Development
- Continued development of the Android companion application.
- Updated mobile deck, mixer, library and playback-related components.
- Improved mobile UI layouts and responsiveness.
- Updated Android build configuration and integration documentation.
Note: Android remains ongoing development work. This release does not include a verified Android APK or claim full physical-device support.
Stability, Testing & Release Packaging
- Fixed a Windows startup stack-overflow issue by separating UI item trees.
- Corrected FX handoff mutex initialization before audio callbacks.
- Improved cross-platform release validation.
- Changed release packaging so archives are uploaded only after packaged-app smoke tests pass.
- Added stricter checks for missing release archives.
- Added explicit packaging-job timeouts.
The v0.2.2 GitHub Actions release workflow completed successfully for Linux, Windows and macOS Apple silicon.
Community Contributions
Special thanks to ** @efficientcommunication-png ** for actively testing OpenFadeR and providing valuable feedback, including:
- Tempo display accuracy and configurable decimal precision.
- Beat-grid and hotcue-marker visibility.
- Readability of full-track overview waveforms.
- Track metadata and comment editing.
- Tempo-slider behavior and memory-point visibility.
- Hercules DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3 controller-mapping improvements.
- Settings and configuration documentation suggestions.
These reports and suggestions have helped shape recent improvements and the project's development priorities. Some requests remain open and are not all implemented in v0.2.2.
Downloads
Each desktop archive includes the application, themes, controller mappings and plugins.
Windows — x86_64
openfader-0.2.2-windows-x86_64.zip
Extract the archive and run openfader.exe.
The application is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may display a warning.
Linux — x86_64
openfader-0.2.2-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
Extract the archive and run ./openfader.
Requires the usual desktop libraries, including ALSA, a graphical desktop environment and fontconfig. Install zenity or kdialog for file selection.
macOS — Apple silicon (ARM64)
OpenFadeR-0.2.2-macos-arm64.zip
Extract the archive, move OpenFadeR.app to Applications and use right-click → Open if macOS blocks the first launch.
The application is ad-hoc signed but not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized.
Optional dependencies: FFmpeg for video functionality and Python 3 for Python plugins.
