Getting Started

Install

Recommended: F-Droid. f-droid.org/packages/com.yash.xpenc — automatic updates, and F-Droid builds the app from this source tree themselves, so you don't have to trust a binary anyone uploaded.

Or a direct APK from Releases or the website:

Your phone Asset
Most phones (~2017+) xpenc-arm64-v8a.apk
Older 32-bit phones xpenc-armeabi-v7a.apk
Emulators xpenc-x86_64.apk

Every release ships SHA256SUMS.txt so you can verify your download.

Picking a source is a one-time decision. F-Droid and direct APKs are signed with different keys, so Android won't update one over the other — see Upgrade Guide § signing keys before you switch later.

First run

  1. Open the app — no account, no sign-up, no internet check. Nothing to log in to.
  2. Add your first account: Cash, Bank, Card, Pay-later, or Prepaid Balance, with its current real balance. See Features § Accounts.
  3. Pick your currency in Settings → Currency if it isn't already right for you.
  4. Start logging transactions — Income, Expense, or Transfer between your own accounts. Tags and a receipt photo are one tap away in the app bar while adding one.

A few things worth setting up early

  • Passcode lock (Settings → Security) if the phone isn't only yours, or you just want a PIN gate with biometric unlock.
  • Budgets per category, so you get an alert at 80% spent and at overspend before it happens.
  • Automatic backups (More → Backup & Restore) — schedule daily, monthly or custom backups to Download/BACKUP XPENC, so a backup exists even if you never remember to take one manually.

Coming from an older version?

See the Upgrade Guide — updating in place always keeps your data; the only thing that doesn't is switching to a build signed with a different key (see above).
