PaNasMs 0.2.21

Choose a tag to compare

@matviienkop matviienkop released this 12 Oct 15:28
40ff74f

Changes

  • Added a General setting for the NAS hostname and a derived .local panel address. Hostname and mDNS changes use a recoverable transaction.
  • Fixed the Wi-Fi network dialog so periodic refreshes do not duplicate Scan and Hidden network actions or push the available network list out of view.
  • The connection buttons now appear only after selecting a Wi-Fi network.

Validation

Native ARM64 and AMD64 builds run backend, race, frontend and package checks. A native ARM64 development package from the pinned backend/frontend source trees was installed on a physical Raspberry Pi NAS. Core, agent and module services were healthy, and dpkg reported no broken packages. Browser testing confirmed a single pair of Wi-Fi actions through periodic refreshes, multiple networks after a scan, and selection/Cancel without a connection change. Hostname change and restoration, .local resolution and HTTP health were checked earlier through the management API; the authenticated browser Save path for hostname has not been exercised. No new reboot or power-cut test was run.

The File Drop prototype is separate and is not part of this public core release.

Upgrade

Choose the stable channel in Settings → Updates and install 0.2.21. The updater backs up the installed packages and state for rollback. Existing cloud accounts, tasks and data are retained. Install modules separately from Modules.

Supported installation targets remain Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04, Raspberry Pi OS and the documented tested Armbian configuration. Hardware-specific cooling and USB gadget support depend on the board.

PaNasMs 0.2.20

Changes

  • Google, Dropbox and GitHub connections remain centrally managed; GitHub repository authorization now supports repository backup in Cloud Sync.
  • Files can recognize Git repositories, show the current branch and local changes, and switch existing branches using the signed-in NAS user's filesystem permissions.
  • Files 0.3.20 and Cloud Sync 0.1.32 coordinate repository access to prevent branch switching during synchronization. These modules are installed and updated separately from the core.
  • Updated licensing metadata to Sustainable Use License 1.0.

Validation

Native ARM64 and AMD64 builds run backend, race, frontend and package checks. The same core source revisions were exercised on the physical Raspberry Pi NAS, including Git status and branch switching through Files. This release does not claim a new full hardware acceptance cycle.

Supported installation targets remain Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04, Raspberry Pi OS and the documented tested Armbian configuration. Hardware-specific cooling and USB gadget support depend on the board.

Upgrade

Choose the stable channel in Settings → Updates. The updater creates a rollback backup and updates the installed cooling package where applicable. Existing cloud accounts, tasks and data are preserved. Install Files 0.3.20 and Cloud Sync 0.1.32 from Modules to use the coordinated Git workflow.

Git branch switching requires a clean working tree. Linked worktrees and custom Git filters are not supported by Files. External command-line Git operations do not participate in module locking.

PaNasMs 0.2.17 — HDD standby and cooling reliability

@matviienkop matviienkop released this 11 Oct 18:00

PaNasMs 0.2.17 improves HDD standby monitoring and cooling reliability.

  • Read temperatures on disks that support SMART access in standby without waking up on each poll.
  • Keep the strongest cooling demand when readable and unreadable sleeping disks are mixed.
  • Distinguish power-state errors from sleep. Retry transient or inconclusive SMART failures with bounded backoff instead of permanently disabling standby readings.
  • Detect disks that leave standby during a probe and avoid attributing concurrent application I/O to SMART incompatibility.
  • Show temperature freshness separately from cached full SMART health/attributes. Disk, array and HDD cooling widgets consistently recognize current standby readings.
  • Update an already-installed cooling package together with the core through the normal backup and rollback transaction.

Signed packages are available for ARM64 and AMD64 through the stable update channel. Physical testing used the Raspberry Pi 5/Radxa Penta SATA HAT NAS; Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04 AMD64 installation acceptance used Proxmox VMs. This patch does not expand the supported hardware list. Installable modules keep their independent versions.

Validation: native ARM64/AMD64 builds, backend/PAM/race tests and frontend tests passed. The physical NAS successfully read temperatures from four sleeping HDDs and detected normal wakeup under Cloud Sync I/O. Transient failures and mixed-capability scenarios were tested with deterministic regressions; prolonged uninterrupted standby was not repeated during active synchronization.

PaNasMs 0.2.16 is a maintenance release on top of 0.2.15.

Install or update

Installation guide · Project and screenshots

For a fresh installation:

curl -fsSL https://panasms.github.io/updates/install.sh | sudo bash

Existing installations on the stable channel: open Settings → System updates, check for updates and install 0.2.16. The updater verifies signatures, makes a backup and checks service health. Modules have their own versions and update through the module manager.

Changes since 0.2.15

  • The system updater now upgrades the cooling package together with the core when the cooling package is installed, as it is on Raspberry Pi 5. Before this release the cooling package stayed on the version from the first installation. The rollback backup includes both packages, and the update fails if the cooling service does not start again. Verified on the Raspberry Pi 5 NAS.
  • Component READMEs describe the stable release, the install command and the tested systems.

This is the first update that upgrades the cooling package. On 0.2.15 the update runs with the 0.2.15 updater, which upgrades only the core. The next update after 0.2.16 also brings the cooling package up to date.

Module versions in the catalog

Files 0.3.13, Terminal 0.2.11, Cloud Sync 0.1.24 and Containers and applications 0.1.17 (preview). Install or update them from Modules.

Validated targets and limits

Unchanged from 0.2.15. ARM64: Raspberry Pi OS 13 and Debian 13-based Armbian on Raspberry Pi 5 with Radxa Penta SATA HAT. AMD64: Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS in virtual machines. Other boards and PCs are not individually certified. Screen-reader use has not been tested.

Exact source revisions are in release-lock.json. Signed ARM64 and AMD64 packages and build provenance are in PaNasMs/updates.
