PageBrick 1.8.0
- A switch for the browser cache of the site's files. A host that sends no
Cache-Controlmakes the browser download the photos, fonts, styles and scripts again at every visit, which is what the PageSpeed test calls "efficient cache lifetimes". Settings → Address and languages → Speed: file cache puts a few lines at the end of.htaccess(a week for pictures, styles and scripts; a year for what has another address when it changes: files asked for with?v=…, the uploaded files and the fonts) and takes them out again, leaving the file exactly as it was. A copy of the file is kept first, the site is asked once afterwards, and the lines go out by themselves if the host answers with an error; a host withoutmod_headersignores them. A new installation already has them. The update never touches.htaccess, so a site installed before gets them by pressing the button; if the file cannot be written, the card shows the lines to paste. - Photos come in three sizes, and a theme can ask for the right one. Every photo sent now also keeps a 960-pixel copy (besides the 480 thumbnail and the full one, up to 1920), and
->img(sizes: '…')prints asrcset, so a phone downloads the middle or the small one instead of the large one. The default theme and the core's own sections (photo with text, cards, gallery) use it. Media → Redo the sizes makes the copy for the photos sent before this version (12 at a time, one click each). - HTML changes:
img()has a fourth optional argument,$sizes. Without it the<img>is byte for byte the one of 1.7.1, so a theme prints the same HTML until its author passessizes. The default theme's pictures and the core's photo with text, cards and gallery sections now printsrcsetandsizeswhen the photo has a smaller copy. Nothing in the public API is removed or changed. - The full list is in the CHANGELOG.
Update: this is a feature release, so it is announced in the panel and installed when you choose: Settings → Updates → Update to 1.8.0. The update checks every page of the site afterwards and goes back by itself if anything breaks. Then turn on Speed: file cache in Settings → Address and languages, and, in Media, use Redo the sizes if it is offered.
New install: download pagebrick-1.8.0.zip below, upload what is inside its pagebrick folder to your hosting (including .htaccess, which some programs hide), create a MySQL database and open the site. Requirements: PHP 8.2+, MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.4+, Apache with mod_rewrite.
