Combat in map objects

H3Landscape can change the battlefield background to match the location where the battle takes place.

Objects classified as caves

During battles in locations classified as caves, an underground background is displayed (as is the case during battles in abandoned mines).

Creature banks - land based

Cyclops Stockpile Pirate Cavern Spit
  • If the bank is on grass, snow, or highlands, the image CmBkDrUg.pcx (underground dirt) is used as the battlefield background.
  • In all other cases, an underground version of the background corresponding to the terrain type is used.

Changing the background does not affect movement bonuses for units on native terrain.

Creature banks - water based

Beholders' Sanctuary
  • If the Sanctuary is on grass or highlands, the image CmBkSwUg.pcx (underground swamp) is used as the battlefield background.
  • If the Sanctuary is on snow or lava, the image CmBkDrUg.pcx (underground dirt) is used as the battlefield background.
  • In all other cases, an underground version of the background corresponding to the terrain type is used.
Temple of the Sea
  • If the Temple of the Sea is on lava, the image CmBkDrUg.pcx (underground dirt) is used as the battlefield background.
  • In all other cases, an underground version of the background corresponding to the terrain type is used.

As in the original Horn of the Abyss, battles in these banks are treated as naval battles (no movement bonuses are granted to any units).

Dwellings

Behemoth Crag Cyclops Cave
  • If the dwelling is on grass, snow, or highlands, the terrain type is changed to rough and the image CmBkRghUg.pcx (underground rough) is used as the battlefield background.
  • In all other cases, an underground version of the background corresponding to the terrain type is used.

Mines

Crystal Cavern Gold Mine
  • If the mine is on grass, snow, swamp or highlands, the terrain type is changed to rough and the image CmBkRghUg.pcx (underground rough) is used as the battlefield background.
  • In all other cases, an underground version of the background corresponding to the terrain type is used.

Water objects

Derelict Ship

Derelict Ship
  • If the Derelict Ship is on land, the CmBkDeck.pcx (deck) or CmBkDkUg.pcx (deck in underground) is used as the battlefield background.
