VetroLook 2.4.0 — Tokyo Glass and Smart Gallery

Changes since the last published release, 2.2:

• English / Русский on first launch. The question is in English and stays open until you choose. Close, Alt+F4 and Escape cannot dismiss it. Your choice is saved and can be changed later in the menu.
• Tokyo Glass. Cream, charcoal and red, bold typography, rounded frosted surfaces and restored ambient image/video reflection.
• Files sidebar. Recent, Favorites, pinned folders, system-location icons and a compact current-path stack. Pin/unpin or move a folder to the Recycle Bin from its context menu.
• Quick Scope and spring-loaded folders. Search the current folder, subfolders or all indexed locations; drag-hover for about 500 ms to open a folder.
• Local Smart Gallery. The bundled six-class classifier runs in the background. Initial progress can morph into a bottom-right toast; completion expands it into an application question.
• Your confirmation controls filtering. First-pass labels never hide images until Yes, apply. Later preserves labels and asks again next launch. After Yes, new files apply automatically.
• Persistent corrections. Manual Show/Hide decisions take priority, uncertain images stay visible and original files stay untouched.
• Complete model payload in release packages. EXE, MSI and portable ZIP include the same model and policy, playback library and Lensfun database. The legacy clean uninstaller now preserves settings and gallery corrections.

Verification and model limits

Release build, both language choices, blocked dismissal, preference persistence and invalid-setting recovery were checked. Native Smart Gallery integration passed 20 checks; all four popup/toast/application UI scenarios passed.

The classifier was not retrained for this release. Its real-photo false-hidden rate on the reviewed evaluation was 2/4,178 (0.04787%); the one-sided 95% upper bound is 0.15061%, above the original 0.1% target. The original scientific gate remains failed. This model is distributed with publisher acceptance and requires the user's initial application confirmation. See the model card.

VetroLook 2.2 brings a substantial Video Mode polish pass, a more reliable playback experience, and a complete Windows delivery set.

Highlights

• Rebuilt Video Mode controls around a dense macOS-style frosted matte material with live backdrop blur, layered tint, border, highlight, shadow, and grain.
• Replaced transport and window glyphs with a consistent Phosphor-inspired icon system and refined interaction motion.
• Added dedicated audio-track and subtitle controls, stable animated popups, and a Picture-in-Picture control with correct window-state restoration.
• Fixed glass material loss during hover and popup interaction.

VetroLook 2.1

Highlights

VetroLook 2.1 is a video player as well as a photo viewer — in the same window, with the same glass interface and the same keyboard.

• Video Mode — films play composited underneath the interface, with hardware decoding, display-synced frame pacing and HDR output.
• Timeline previews and frame stepping — see the frame you are heading for before you let go, and step one frame at a time in both directions.
• Subtitles in the Vetro Bubble — dialogue on frosted glass that morphs between lines; authored typesetting stays exactly where its author put it.
• AI subtitles, made on your PC — Whisper transcribes a film's speech locally. Download it once from the … menu; audio never leaves your computer.
• Streams — direct links, HLS, DASH, live streams with a DVR window, and automatic reconnecting.
• RTX Video Super Resolution, picture in picture, Windows media controls and session restore.

• Films open in the same window as photos, with poster, facts and a transport in the viewer's own glass.
• Hardware decoding where the GPU supports the codec, software otherwise; the renderer and decode path are shown in Diagnostics.
• Frame pacing follows the display's exact refresh rate; the resource governor protects playback before anything else.
• HDR output on HDR displays and tone mapping on SDR displays.

AI subtitles

• One download in the … menu (about 1.2 GB) fetches the whisper.cpp runtime, the speech detector and the model, each checked against its published SHA-256, with a progress bar. It can be removed from the same row.
• A turns AI subtitles on; Shift+A saves them beside the film as .srt.
• Transcription runs a few minutes ahead of the playhead, skips silence, filters invented lines and is kept for next time.
• Skip silence (Gentle / Aggressive) for lectures and recordings.

Streams

• Open an address from the command line or with Ctrl+V.
• Live streams show LIVE, keep a DVR window and return to the edge with End.
• Dropped connections are reopened with backoff at the position reached.
• Failures are explained in plain words; DRM-only services are recognised up front.
• Web pages work with a user-supplied yt-dlp.exe in a resolver folder.

Enhancement

• RTX Video Super Resolution (Off / Auto / On) on NVIDIA RTX cards.

Fixes

• The transport keeps its frosted glass while subtitles are on screen.
• Controls no longer leave an empty glass panel behind as they fade.
• The subtitle bubble keeps its text when the controls are hidden.
• Messages appear above the transport and subtitles instead of on top of them.
• "Open with" now offers VetroLook for video and audio files, not only images.
• The session log no longer stops after its first non-English line.
