MaterialCraft 0.4.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Oct 13:03

Native .sbs support. MaterialCraft now reads and writes Substance Designer’s own .sbs format. Packages open as they are, and saving rewrites only what you changed. Files written by MaterialCraft now load correctly in Designer. Colours and grayscale nodes come through right, and the dependency links are valid.

35 stylized PBR templates. The launcher’s Templates tab has a new Material templates section, each with a preview. They include stone, brick, wood, metal, rust, leather, ice, lava rock and more. One click opens a template as a new graph. All 35 were made with MaterialCraft only.

Splines. There is now a spline editor, opened through Edit → New spline shape or from an SVG node’s properties. It has a Pen tool, point and handle editing, shape presets, undo/redo and optional grid snap. The shape is stored in the package as an SVG node, so Bevel, Distance, Blur and other nodes take it like any picture.

Editor improvements.

Dragging a link over a node shows its input slot names.
Snap nodes to grid, with a grid size you choose, is in the Edit menu and is saved between sessions.
Texture resolution shows under every node once you zoom in.

3D viewer. There are new texture sampling settings (filter, mipmaps, wrap, LOD bias). The 3D texture size follows the output nodes’ resolution, and you can override it in the Renderer menu.

Node graph editor

  • 216 texture nodes, 84 function nodes and 5 pattern-program nodes.
  • Generators: noises, Voronoi, tiles, bricks, weaves, shapes, splatter, grunge and more.
  • Filters: blends, warps, blur, levels, gradient maps, bevel, distance and more.
  • Material nodes: normal, ambient occlusion, curvature, height blend, edge wear, dirt and dust.
  • Subgraphs, function graphs, pixel and value processors, and any parameter drivable by a function.
  • Bitmap, SVG and text nodes, with its own rasteriser and TrueType reader.

Spline and path tools

  • Spline editor in the 2D view, SVG import and mask tracing to splines.
  • Eleven path nodes: stroke, fill, border, scatter, track, cable, seam, warp and more.

Mesh baking

  • Import OBJ, glTF/GLB, PLY and STL.
  • 16 baked maps, including tangent and world normals, AO, curvature, thickness, position and ID maps.
  • Bake sets are stored in the package. A Baked Map node feeds the results back into the graph.
  • Command line: materialcraft bake.

3D viewer and renderer

  • Image-based lighting from .hdr, .exr and .png files, plus built-in presets, with rotation, exposure and blur.
  • Directional, point and spot lights with shadows, camera presets and a turntable.
  • Custom meshes, look-dev, floor and pedestal scenes, and 16 built-in shapes.
  • Displacement, parallax and bump preview.
  • Tone mapping (filmic, ACES, Hable, Reinhard) and post effects: SSAO, depth of field, bloom, grading and vignette.
  • Per-channel isolation.
  • An OpenGL viewport, a CPU renderer that matches it, and a progressive path tracer.
  • Headless rendering: materialcraft render3d graph.mcg out.png --mode pt --spp 256.
