TROOPER 1.1.0
It now hears everything your controller sends.
1.0.1 handled note on, note off and the sustain pedal, and quietly dropped
the rest. Pitch bend did nothing. The mod wheel did nothing. The woodwind is a
jet waveguide, where breath pressure is the physical input the whole model is
built around, and there was no way to reach it. For six modelled instruments
that was most of the expression left on the table.
Pitch bend retunes all six engines, including notes that are already
ringing. On a waveguide that means recomputing the loop delay compensation, not
resampling anything.
Mod wheel goes where each model can use it: vibrato on strings, woodwind
and guitar, the motor on the vibraphone, a deeper rotary on the organ. Nothing
on the piano, because vibrato on a piano is not a thing.
Breath (CC2) drives the woodwind's jet directly, so blowing harder changes
the timbre rather than just the level. Ignored until a breath controller sends
something, then no breath means no note.
Expression (CC11) is continuous level on the sustained engines and the
organ's swell pedal, which sits ahead of the drive stage the way a real console
does, so backing off the pedal takes the overdrive with it.
Aftertouch leans on a held note. MPE adds per-note bend and pressure.
Also new:
- Save your own sounds. SAVE, under the artwork, keeps the current settings
under a name. They live under MY SOUNDS in the browser and in
Documents\TROOPER\My Sounds, so they survive a reinstall. - Scala and AnaMark tuning files. Because nothing is sampled, an unequal
scale is genuinely re-rendered rather than approximated by resampling a
piano. Load a .scl or .tun and all six engines follow it. - Bend range, tune, transpose and octave, none of which existed before.
- Key and velocity zones per layer, which turn the six-layer mixer into a
split keyboard. Wide open by default. - All 530 sounds now appear in your DAW's own preset menu and respond to
MIDI program change. - A voice ceiling across all six engines, for when you are short of CPU. It
starts above anything the instrument can reach, so nothing is thinned unless
you lower it deliberately.
Fixes:
- Reverb tails are no longer cut short when you bounce. It reported a fixed 12
seconds of tail while the reverb can ring for 20, so hosts were truncating
anything set past the middle of the decay range. - The layer mixer no longer computes an equal-power pan on every sample for
every layer, which was half a million transcendental calls a second for values
that only move when a fader does. - A host that hands over a longer buffer than it promised is now processed in
pieces instead of growing a buffer mid-render.
Your projects are safe. Every engine renders byte-identical output with no
controller input, so a session saved with 1.0.1 recalls exactly the same sound.
A macOS build with AU is in progress. It compiles, but it has not been tested on
real hardware yet, so there is nothing to download for Mac in this release.

TROOPER 1.0.1
Every sound is different now.
1.0.0 shipped with 217 of its 530 presets having a near-identical twin. Each
category was one engine with a few knobs jittered inside a single range, and
random points in a box cluster: nudging felt from 40 to 55 does not make a
different piano.
Presets are now built from voicings. Each category picks a distinctly
different corner first - six pianos, five pads, five plucks, four basses -
and roughly three quarters then take a quiet second engine underneath, which
is where most of the real variety comes from. 217 near-identical down to 12.
Category levels are also trimmed toward a common loudness. Piano sat 9 dB
under the bowed sounds, so browsing jumped in volume between neighbours.
Other fixes:
- Opens at 75% so it fits alongside a mixer and a playlist
- A new instance actually loads its first sound. It used to show a preset
name in the browser while the engine sat on factory defaults, so the sound
you saw was not the sound you played - The keyboard takes focus on open, so letter keys play immediately
Preset names are unchanged but they sound different from 1.0.0. A project
saved with 1.0.0 will recall a different sound. That is the reason for the
version bump.
