Deviload 2.6.5 brings a new download workspace, animated progress and mascot reactions, batch queue controls, settings backups and more precise editing. It also fixes download results, library records and saved Devil Cut projects.
Windows: Deviload-2.6.5-setup.exe, or accept the update prompt in the app.
Mac (test build): accept the update prompt, or take Deviload-2.6.5-macos-test.zip, move it to Applications and run xattr -cr /Applications/Deviload.app once.
Linux (x86_64): Deviload-2.6.5-amd64.deb or Deviload-2.6.5-x86_64.AppImage; the AppImage updates itself.
What's new
-
Saved projects retain their source records when the queue or library is cleared. New tasks no longer reuse deleted task IDs. Missing video sources can be located again without discarding the timeline.
-
Playlist files have individual library entries and actions, including successfully downloaded files from a partially failed playlist. Repeated records of the same path do not inflate the library count. Download groups can be collapsed.
-
The selected video container also applies to sources that already contain video and audio. Incompatible codecs are reported instead of silently returning another container.
-
Download archives distinguish formats and destination settings. Skipped tasks say "Already downloaded" and offer "Download again" instead of reporting a new file that does not exist.
-
Watched lists keep excess new entries eligible for the next check instead of marking them as downloaded.
-
Link inspection and playlist selection use the selected cookies source. Retrying a failed task applies the current cookies settings. Instagram errors distinguish audience restrictions, an empty API response and request limits.
-
Linux YouTube sign-in directs users to browser cookies or a cookies.txt file. Opening a browser alone does not transfer its session.
-
Tray actions restore minimized windows, macOS handles reopening from the Dock, and signing out on macOS clears the site's cookies without clearing application storage.
-
Small windows retain toolbar actions in a More menu. Settings are divided into categories, video/audio choices are separate from playlist/subtitle options, and the save-folder picker is available beside the format controls.
-
Progress distinguishes merging, conversion, container changes and saving. Supporting buttons and idle mascot motion are quieter.
-
Linux packages include media playback dependencies. AppImage startup isolates GIO modules from incompatible host plugins; CI checks startup on Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04.
-
Mac and Linux: Deviload no longer looks through Downloads, Desktop and Documents at start for Deviload 1.x, which only ever ran on Windows; on Mac that search made the system ask for folder access every time
Thanks to Esquire_Gamer for testing on Mac.
Workspace and workflow improvements
The download workspace keeps the link field, format controls and queue together. The library, converter and Devil Cut share the same palette and controls, with the mascot and flame effects reserved for download activity.
Downloads and library
- Select multiple tasks to pause, resume, retry, cancel or send completed files to a phone. Failed actions keep their selection for another attempt.
- Save download profiles and organize destinations by author, month or playlist. Link previews identify items already in the library.
- Keep library records and their count when clearing completed tasks from the queue.
- Show merging, conversion and saving separately from transfer progress. Completed downloads become available before optional metadata inspection finishes.
- Keep pending phone transfers when adding more files to the transfer list.
- Preserve phone transfer progress during browser header checks, count overlapping ranges once, and mark a file sent only after all bytes have been served. Interrupted downloads no longer keep an unused phone link alive indefinitely.
Settings and editing
- Export and restore download settings, profiles, watched sources and interface preferences. Imports show a summary before applying changes and exclude cookies and account credentials.
- Select multiple Devil Cut clips, duplicate or delete them together, and undo the group action.
- Enter precise source trim boundaries, set boundaries at the playhead, and choose video, audio or GIF export presets.
Interface and platform support
- Use the compasses and square mark for the application, installer and system tray. macOS uses a template tray icon for light and dark menu bars.
- Keep the mascot's torso and grip stable while its wings flex slowly and its lower flames move. Completion and error reactions remain animated; reduced-motion settings keep the idle pose still.
- Provide an Open Deviload tray menu on macOS and Linux, handle Windows double-clicks, and restore the application before focusing its window on macOS.
- Report missing Instagram sessions, audience restrictions, empty responses and malformed responses separately. Retrying uses the currently selected cookies source. A saved session does not guarantee that Instagram will return a particular post.
- Bundle the media engines in macOS CI builds and verify their packaged executable files. Linux CI checks AppImage startup on Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04.
Instagram extraction can still fail for posts the service does not return to yt-dlp, including when saved cookies are present.
