Mario Kart: Super Circuit VR patch 12
Pre-releaseMario Kart: Super Circuit VR, patch 12. An early test build for the experimental shelf of the Multiverse VR Hub.
This one makes the rewind easy to find. REWIND BUTTON on the ASSISTS page is now On for new installs, and for anyone who never changed it: hold X in a plain race and the tape runs the race back. A quick tap of X is meant to still use your item, and the left trigger always does; the game taking that tap is not yet checked on my rig, so tell me if an item ever fails to fire. The first time you get hit, fall off or need Lakitu in a race, the game is meant to tell you once: HOLD X TO RUN IT BACK, LET GO TO DRIVE ON (I have not seen that hint in this exact build yet). The help text on the REWIND BUTTON row now says what the tape really does. If you turned REWIND BUTTON off yourself, it stays off until you turn it back on.
While the tape runs, the plate shows the speed you are asking for, and END OF THE TAPE when you reach the start of what was kept. Your hands stay on the wheel all the way through a tape and its landing.
The big screen by the start line no longer shows a dark back standing over the walls: its picture is on both faces now, and it only stands on open ground beside the track. On a course with no room for it, there is no screen.
Auto-pause is calmer. If the game does not take its pause press, it tries again every 8 seconds instead of every 2.5, and if you unpause yourself with the headset off, it leaves you alone until you put the headset back on.
The volcano eruption now rises beside the racing line ahead of you, with taller columns of fire, instead of behind you after a turn. NATURAL HAZARDS is still Off by default.
Everything in patch 11 is still here, including the tape rewind with its jog dial and recording a race to MP4.
It includes the models studio: drop your own models in, open AssetStudio.html, see MODELS.md. THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt holds the licences of the libraries it uses.
It installs over the official Mario Kart: Super Circuit recompilation v0.0.3 by Matthew Stanley (github.com/mstan/MarioKartSuperCircuitRecomp). You bring your own ROM. Free and never sold, under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0.
I have tested it on my desktop rig and in SteamVR's test headset, but not in a real headset yet. How the rewind feels in a real headset is untested, and where the tape lands is close to the frame you let go on but not pixel for pixel the same.
