Update a library (PS3)

ravenDS edited this page Jul 27, 2026 · 2 revisions

SingStar Toolbox lets you update an existing PS3 SingStar library, allowing you to add or remove songs whenever you want.

There are two ways to update your library:

  • Locally, using the song library folder stored on your computer
  • Via FTP, using the library folder stored on your PS3 with automated file transfer

Updating via FTP requires an FTP server to be installed and running on your PS3. We recommend using webMAN, as its FTP server starts automatically and requires no additional setup.

Important

This feature is only available for song libraries generated with SST. You cannot add songs to a retail SingStar disc. If you want to build a library using songs from a retail SingStar disc, first convert its contents to SST3, then build the PS3 library.

Step 1: Add songs to the grid

Add any songs to the main grid as you normally would.

If you only want to remove songs from the library, you don't need to add any songs to the grid.

Step 2: Mode selection

From the console mode dropdown, select PS3 (update local) or PS3 (update via FTP).

  • If PS3 (update local) is selected, SST will prompt you to browse for your local song library folder.
  • If PS3 (update via FTP) is selected, SST will ask for your PS3's IP address to retrieve the required files via FTP (XML files and cover artwork).

Tip

In FTP mode, downloading cover artwork may occasionally fail, in which case SST will display a warning.
This message is kept for diagnostic purposes and can usually be safely ignored.

Step 3: Update overview

Once the existing library has been processed, a new window will open displaying all existing songs.
Newly added songs will appear in light blue to make them easy to identify.

From this window, you can also mark existing songs for deletion. Any songs marked for deletion will be removed during the update process.

Click "Update PS3 library" to begin the update.

The update duration will vary depending on the format of the new songs (UltraStar, SST2, SST3, or SSTD). SST3 & SSTD files are processed instantaneously.

Warning

When using FTP mode, do not use other applications on your PS3, or interrupt the transfer process at any time.
This could corrupt the song list, which can only be repaired through manual editing.

Step 4: Transfer & enjoy

  • If PS3 (update via FTP) was selected, your updated song library is now ready to use on your PS3.
  • If PS3 (update local) was selected, replace the FileSystem folder at the root of the PS3 hard drive with the updated version.

Enjoy!
