Forbric runs Fabric, MinecraftForge and NeoForge mods together in one Minecraft instance.

How to install

1. Download two files from below, into the same folder.

You are on Download these
Windows forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.bat
macOS / Linux forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.command

2. Double-click the launcher — Forbric-Installer.bat on Windows, Forbric-Installer.command
on macOS and Linux.

Use the launcher rather than the jar. It knows where to find Java, including the copy your
Minecraft launcher downloaded for the game — so this works even if you have never installed Java
yourself.

On macOS, the first time you open it you may need to right-click it and choose Open, then
confirm. That is macOS being careful about files downloaded from the internet, not an error.

If you already have Java on your PATH you can skip the launcher and run the jar directly:

java -jar forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar

3. Check that "Game directory" points at your .minecraft folder, then press Install.

It is usually filled in correctly already. If you need to check:

  • Windows — C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
  • macOS — ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
  • Linux — ~/.minecraft

4. Wait for it to finish.

The first install takes a few minutes, downloads about 250 MB, and uses about 700 MB of disk.
That is expected. A few of the files Forbric needs contain Minecraft's, MinecraftForge's and
NeoForge's own code, so they cannot be handed out here — the installer builds them on your
computer instead. They are kept afterwards, so installing again is quick.

Stay connected to the internet while it runs.

5. Open your launcher. A new version called 26.2-forbric will be in the list. Launch it.

Where to put mods

.minecraft\mods\

If your launcher keeps each version separate ("version isolation"), use this instead:

.minecraft\versions\26.2-forbric\mods\

Fabric, MinecraftForge and NeoForge mods all go in the same folder. That is the point of
Forbric — you do not have to pick one kind.

What you need

  • Minecraft 26.2 — if you do not have it yet, the installer downloads it for you
  • Java — if you can already play Minecraft, you have it. The launcher scripts find the copy
your Minecraft launcher downloaded, even if you never installed Java yourself.
  • An internet connection

How to uninstall

Delete these two folders. Nothing else is touched, and your other Minecraft versions are left
exactly as they were:

.minecraft\versions\26.2-forbric\
.minecraft\.forbric-build\

If something goes wrong

Nothing happens when you double-click, or a black window flashes and disappears.
You double-clicked the jar instead of the launcher, and Windows has the wrong "open with" setting
for .jar files. Use Forbric-Installer.bat instead — it does not depend on that setting.

The download is slow, or seems stuck.
The installer retries by itself. If you close it and start again, everything already downloaded is
kept, so it picks up where it left off rather than starting over.

You want to check whether it will work before installing anything.
This only looks — it writes nothing and downloads nothing:

java -jar forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar --doctor

It prints which Java it found, how much disk the install would need, and whether anything is
missing.

Options

You will not normally need these.

--dir <path> install into this folder instead of the default
--doctor check only, write nothing
--mirror <prefix> put a relay in front of github.com, if it is slow where you are
--offline never use the network for Forbric's own files
--jdk <path> use this Java instead of the one found automatically
