Preview build. Fixes since v0.3.1-beta:

Mods

  • Create: Adapted — key bindings are registered, so clicking in the world works again (blocks can be broken). Creative search works, and resizing the window no longer crashes the game ("Missing registry: create:potato_projectile/type").
  • Create Fly — no longer crashes at startup. Its fluid, model, rendering, redstone, collision, sound and HUD hooks now run.
  • Carpet — players are no longer disconnected when joining a Forbric dedicated server that runs Carpet. Scarpet's hand-swap and block-break events behave as on Fabric.
  • TaCZ Refabricated — no crash on the title screen (#31) or when anything takes damage.
  • Sodium / Iris (NeoForge) — no crash at startup without Fabric API.
  • Alex's Mobs (NeoForge) and other mods with multi-part mobs — no crash or "network protocol error" when these mobs come into view (#4).
  • MinecraftForge mobs (e.g. Animal Garden) — have their attributes in single player. The client is no longer disconnected when one appears.
  • WTHIT (Forge) — a dedicated server with WTHIT and Bad Packets finishes starting.
  • LPLM — the server no longer crashes a few seconds after starting.
  • Enchant Craft — players are no longer kicked when joining (seen with Sophisticated Core).
  • rrls + Forge Config API Port — no crash at startup.
  • Farmer's Delight (Refabricated) — the Cooking Pot opens (#4).
  • Do a Barrel Roll — the camera rolls again.
  • C2ME — worlds no longer sometimes fail to finish loading; its thread-safety fixes are no longer switched off.
  • Easy Magic, AutoEat, SimpleGUI API, Fzzy Config, Particle Core, Kotlin for Forge (NeoForge) — now load.
  • Biomes O' Plenty (Fabric), Item Glint Relight (Fabric) — no crash while rendering.
  • FancyMenu, Drippy Loading Screen (NeoForge) — no freeze on macOS while loading into a world.
  • Controlify, JECharacters, SpectreLib — set up correctly.
  • Sophisticated Backpacks, Traveler's Backpack, Lootr, Fantasy Furniture (NeoForge) — models are no longer invisible when Fabric API is installed (#16).

General

  • Lava and water react again (obsidian, cobblestone, basalt), also with no mods installed. MinecraftForge mods' fluid reactions match MinecraftForge.
  • Axe stripping follows Fabric mods' stripping rules (Fabric API, BCLib, WorldWeaver).
  • The title screen and F3 show the Forbric version, and the mod count includes every installed mod.
  • A broken install stops at launch with the reason in latest.log (#13). The installer accepts quoted paths and refuses wrong files in "Built artifacts".
  • When Chloride and Cubes Without Borders clash, the crash analysis names both instead of blaming Sodium.

Forbric 0.3.0 — more mods load

Choose a tag to compare

@Ray-T-r Ray-T-r released this 28 Sep 03:38

Fabric mods, Forge mods and NeoForge mods, all running in one Minecraft at the same time.

How to install

  1. Download two files from below, into the same folder:

    You are on Download
    Windows forbric-kernel-installer-0.3.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.bat
    macOS forbric-kernel-installer-0.3.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.command
Linux forbric-kernel-installer-0.3.0.jar (run it with java -jar)
  2. Double-click the .bat or .command — not the jar.

  3. Check that Game directory points at your .minecraft folder, then press install.

  4. Wait. The first install takes several minutes and needs about 730 MB of free disk (about 190 MB is
kept afterwards). Updating from 0.2.0 also takes several minutes once, because the game files are built again.

  5. Open your launcher and start the version 26.2-forbric.

Put your mods in .minecraft/versions/26.2-forbric/mods/ (or the shared .minecraft/mods/ if your launcher
does not keep versions separate). Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mods all go in the same folder.

Full instructions are in the README.

What's new

More mods work. We picked three batches of about 100 random mods from Modrinth (popular ones and
random ones, all three kinds) and started the game with each mod on its own. 80.5% loaded cleanly on
0.2.0, 89.0% on 0.3.0.

New:

  • Mods from different loaders can pass items, fluids and energy to each other — for example a Fabric
pipe or hopper can feed a NeoForge or Forge machine.
  • A window before you play when part of a mod cannot work, so you can choose to continue or quit
    instead of finding out later.
  • The Forbric mods list marks mods that did not finish loading, and says why.
  • After a crash, a crash-analysis.txt names the mods most likely responsible.
  • The warning windows speak 10 languages, including Chinese, and suggest what to install.
  • Forbric now uses the full NeoForge release instead of a beta, so NeoForge mods that need a newer NeoForge
can load, and the title screen no longer says "beta".

Fixed:

  • Crashes when smelting in a furnace, crafting or brewing with Fabric API installed, fighting the Ender
Dragon, using a flower pot, or placing a fluid from a Fabric or Forge mod.
  • Some mod sets left the game on a black screen at startup.
  • Dungeons did not generate, and a seed did not give the same terrain as vanilla Minecraft.
  • Item tooltips were missing enchantments, lore, attributes and durability.
  • Many Forge mods loaded but did nothing — their commands, key bindings, on-screen displays, settings files,
mobs and world changes now work.
  • Xaero's Minimap and World Map (Forge builds) crashed at startup.
  • Mods that crashed or failed on 0.2.0 and work now include Farmer's Delight Refabricated, Better End,
Better Nether, Entity Culling, More Culling, Friends & Foes, Repurposed Structures, Traveler's Backpack,
    Shoulder Surfing and YetAnotherConfigLib.

Worse than 0.2.0: in the same test, Alex's Mobs Continued, Drippy Loading Screen, FancyMenu and
Easy Magic (NeoForge builds) worked on 0.2.0 and do not on 0.3.0.

Changed for server owners: a dedicated server now stops at startup if a mod is missing a part it needs,
because there is no screen to ask you on (see If something goes wrong above).

Known boundaries

  • No promise that any particular mod works. In our test about one mod in ten still fails on its own, and
mods that each work alone can still clash together. Sodium, Iris and Sodium Extra (NeoForge builds) still crash.
  • Version 0.3.0, a research project. No support, no roadmap, no stable API.

Forbric 0.2.0 — all three loaders in one instance

Choose a tag to compare

@Ray-T-r Ray-T-r released this 13 Sep 16:36

Fabric mods, Forge mods and NeoForge mods, all running in one Minecraft at the same time.

Normally a mod only works on the one loader it was built for, so you end up with separate setups and
most of your mods sitting unused in the wrong one. Forbric is a loader you install instead of those
three. Every mod goes into one folder, mixed together, and Forbric works out what each one is and loads
it. No sorting, no picking a side.

How to install

  1. Download two files from below, into the same folder:

    You are on Download
    Windows forbric-kernel-installer-0.2.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.bat
    macOS forbric-kernel-installer-0.2.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.command
Linux forbric-kernel-installer-0.2.0.jar (run it with java -jar)
  2. Double-click the .bat or .command — not the jar. On Windows, double-clicking the jar usually
just flashes a black window and does nothing; the script starts Java itself and avoids that.

  3. A window opens. Check that Game directory points at your .minecraft folder, then press install.

  4. Wait. The first install takes several minutes and needs about 730 MB of free disk (about 190 MB
is kept afterwards). It is downloading Minecraft's, Forge's and NeoForge's own files and putting them
together on your computer, because they cannot legally be handed out ready-made. Stay connected while
    it runs.

  5. Open your launcher. A new version called 26.2-forbric is in the list. Start it.

You do not need Minecraft 26.2 installed first — the installer downloads it if you do not have it. You
do not need to install Java: the scripts find the copy your launcher downloaded.

Put your mods in .minecraft/versions/26.2-forbric/mods/ (or the shared .minecraft/mods/ if your
launcher does not keep versions separate). Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mods all go in the same folder.

Full instructions, including what to do when something goes wrong, are in the
README.

What you get

  • One mods folder for all three kinds. Drop everything in and Forbric sorts it out.
  • One list of your mods. The pause menu and the title screen get a Forbric mods button — three
overlapping squares, tooltip Mods (Forbric). It lists every mod you installed, labelled with the
    kind it is.
  • Settings for any of them. Select a mod and press Config, or double-click it, and you get that
mod's own settings screen — Fabric, Forge or NeoForge. Mod Menu only ever opened Fabric's.
  • Your launcher knows the instance is modded, so mods it downloads land in the right folder.
  • A warning window when a mod is missing something it needs, before the game starts, naming the mod
and what it needs. You can launch anyway.
  • --doctor, which tells you whether your computer can install before you commit to it. It writes
    nothing.

Fixed

  • Elytra flight. It did not work at all.
  • Quitting the game was reported as a crash.
  • Worlds could lose the last minute of play when you exited.
  • Traditional Forge mods that set themselves up on startup did nothing — Biomes O' Plenty, for one:
it loaded, then sat there with its worldgen missing and no error anywhere.
  • Mods' own assets appearing as resource packs you did not add and could not remove.
  • A library bundled inside two different mods was started twice.

Known boundaries

  • No promise that any particular mod works. Three kinds of mods is a large range, and only a small part
of it has been tried. Expect trial and error.
  • Builds are not reproducible — installing twice on one machine produces game jars with different
checksums. What is verified is behaviour: jars from a real install are run through the project's
    gates.
  • Version 0.2.0, a research project. No support, no roadmap, no stable API.

Forbric 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Ray-T-r Ray-T-r released this 10 Sep 11:55

Forbric runs Fabric, MinecraftForge and NeoForge mods together in one Minecraft instance.

How to install

1. Download two files from below, into the same folder.

You are on Download these
Windows forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.bat
macOS / Linux forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar and Forbric-Installer.command

2. Double-click the launcher — Forbric-Installer.bat on Windows, Forbric-Installer.command
on macOS and Linux.

Use the launcher rather than the jar. It knows where to find Java, including the copy your
Minecraft launcher downloaded for the game — so this works even if you have never installed Java
yourself.

On macOS, the first time you open it you may need to right-click it and choose Open, then
confirm. That is macOS being careful about files downloaded from the internet, not an error.

If you already have Java on your PATH you can skip the launcher and run the jar directly:

java -jar forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar

3. Check that "Game directory" points at your .minecraft folder, then press Install.

It is usually filled in correctly already. If you need to check:

  • Windows — C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
  • macOS — ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
  • Linux — ~/.minecraft

4. Wait for it to finish.

The first install takes a few minutes, downloads about 250 MB, and uses about 700 MB of disk.
That is expected. A few of the files Forbric needs contain Minecraft's, MinecraftForge's and
NeoForge's own code, so they cannot be handed out here — the installer builds them on your
computer instead. They are kept afterwards, so installing again is quick.

Stay connected to the internet while it runs.

5. Open your launcher. A new version called 26.2-forbric will be in the list. Launch it.

Where to put mods

.minecraft\mods\

If your launcher keeps each version separate ("version isolation"), use this instead:

.minecraft\versions\26.2-forbric\mods\

Fabric, MinecraftForge and NeoForge mods all go in the same folder. That is the point of
Forbric — you do not have to pick one kind.

What you need

  • Minecraft 26.2 — if you do not have it yet, the installer downloads it for you
  • Java — if you can already play Minecraft, you have it. The launcher scripts find the copy
your Minecraft launcher downloaded, even if you never installed Java yourself.
  • An internet connection

How to uninstall

Delete these two folders. Nothing else is touched, and your other Minecraft versions are left
exactly as they were:

.minecraft\versions\26.2-forbric\
.minecraft\.forbric-build\

If something goes wrong

Nothing happens when you double-click, or a black window flashes and disappears.
You double-clicked the jar instead of the launcher, and Windows has the wrong "open with" setting
for .jar files. Use Forbric-Installer.bat instead — it does not depend on that setting.

The download is slow, or seems stuck.
The installer retries by itself. If you close it and start again, everything already downloaded is
kept, so it picks up where it left off rather than starting over.

You want to check whether it will work before installing anything.
This only looks — it writes nothing and downloads nothing:

java -jar forbric-kernel-installer-0.1.0.jar --doctor

It prints which Java it found, how much disk the install would need, and whether anything is
missing.

Options

You will not normally need these.

--dir <path> install into this folder instead of the default
--doctor check only, write nothing
--mirror <prefix> put a relay in front of github.com, if it is slow where you are
--offline never use the network for Forbric's own files
--jdk <path> use this Java instead of the one found automatically
