Building from Source
Prerequisites
Package
Purpose
gcc
C compiler
make
Build system
libx11-dev / libx11-devel
X11 headers (for xtx, the X11 variant)
Important: Path Must Not Contain Spaces
UnixTree's build system is a collection of shell scripts that feed paths directly into GNU Make. Make splits on spaces, so the source tree must live at a path with no spaces.
If your source directory contains spaces (e.g. Linux Applications/UnixTree Source/), create a symlink:
ln -s "/path/with spaces/xt-3.0.2" /tmp/unixtree
cd /tmp/unixtree
Build Steps
# 1. Configure
./xt_setup
# 2. Build everything
make all
# Binaries are produced at:# product/xt — terminal (curses) binary# product/xtx — X11 binary

Terminal Definition Files
UnixTree uses its own .trm terminal definition files (not system terminfo/termcap). At runtime it searches $XTPATH/trm/ for a file matching $TERM.trm. The environment variable XTPATH must point to the directory containing the trm/ subdirectory.
