GetTranscript exports the captions already available on a video page into a file you can keep, edit or reuse.

  • Export VTT, SRT, plain text, Markdown or JSON.
  • Preserve existing speaker tags and match speaker labels on supported Microsoft Stream recordings.
  • Keep precise timestamps, including overlapping captions.
  • Choose a caption language and preview the result before downloading.
  • Process transcripts locally, with access to the selected tab only when you open the extension.

Supports standard Microsoft Stream recording pages on SharePoint and HTML5 players that expose readable caption tracks. It does not generate transcripts from audio. Open cross-origin embedded players on their original page.

Install

  1. Download and extract gettranscript-v1.0.0-chromium-stores.zip.
  2. Open chrome://extensions or edge://extensions and enable Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json.
  4. Pin GetTranscript, open a supported video, and click the extension.

The same Chromium ZIP is intended for Chrome and Edge. Store availability is separate from this GitHub release.

Validation

Version checks, TypeScript, 24 unit tests, loaded-extension browser tests, production build, package validation and dependency audit passed. The release ZIP is produced once by the tagged GitHub workflow.
