GetTranscript v1.3.1
GetTranscript v1.3.1
This update makes long and multipart Microsoft Stream transcripts more reliable to read and export.
- Read Stream's structured transcript and native speaker names without scrolling through virtualized rows. Supported structured reads continue with the source tab in the background.
- Give slow Stream pages up to 45 seconds to become ready and open supported Transcript controls automatically. Use Open recording for manual preparation, then retry the same recording without reloading it.
- Improve pause and resume behavior, show clearer collection progress, and allow changing the export format while reading.
- Preserve transcripts that switch spoken languages. Show Caption track only when multiple separate tracks exist, with no whole-transcript language label or language-based combining restriction.
- Preserve small caption overruns of up to 5 seconds with a warning, retaining original cues and actual video-duration offsets. Combined VTT/SRT cue starts stay chronological, including across recording boundaries; larger timing conflicts remain blocked.
Validation included 217 unit tests, Chrome and Edge extension and toolbar checks, and a signed-in Edge test of a real three-part recording. The live combined VTT preserved all 7,149 captions and their available speaker tags. No additional extension permissions were introduced.
Store submission, review and public availability are tracked independently; a release asset does not imply immediate Store availability.
GetTranscript v1.3.0
Meetings split across several recordings can now be exported together. Open More options → Combine recordings in the popup to collect up to 20 recordings from the same website.
- Export one combined VTT, SRT, text, Markdown or JSON file, or a ZIP of separate files with original timestamps.
- Join recordings using their complete video durations, set explicit starts to preserve known gaps, or keep original times in Markdown, text and JSON.
- Keep the popup focused: timing, speaker, source-link and mixed-language options live in the workspace’s Advanced options.
- Reading and downloads continue after closing the interface. Reopen to resume progress, pause collection or retry an individual part.
- Longer Stream transcripts are collected in resumable chunks. Speaker matching stays scoped to each recording, and unresolved names remain unnamed.
- Recording identity checks prevent a cached transcript from being reused for a different video.
All processing remains local. Permissions are unchanged: activeTab, scripting, downloads and storage. Related links are taken only from links the page exposes or links the user adds; filenames are never guessed.
Validation: 116 unit tests; complete loaded-extension suites in Chrome and Edge; actual toolbar-popup checks in both browsers and Edge at 150% scaling; type checks, build, package verification and dependency audit. Includes a virtualized 13-hour fixture and three-recording merge/ZIP tests. The private SharePoint meeting still needs a signed-in real-page acceptance check.
The release ZIP is shared by Chrome and Edge. Store review and public availability are separate from this GitHub release.
GetTranscript v1.2.0
Closing GetTranscript now keeps the current tab’s transcript job and result. Reopen the popup to reconnect to a scan, recover your selected format and speaker options, or see the completed download status.
- Reading and exports run in a background worker. Per-tab results stay in temporary browser memory until Refresh or tab close; browser restart or extension reload/update also clears this memory.
- A single caption track appears as muted Detected language information. Multiple available tracks retain a selector.
- The refresh button now uses a conventional circular-arrow icon.
- Help, privacy documentation and Store artwork describe the new behavior. Permissions remain
activeTab,scripting,downloadsandstorage.
Validated with 32 unit tests, 16 loaded-extension tests in Chrome and Edge, real toolbar-popup checks in both browsers, and Edge display scaling at 150%. Coverage includes closing during collection/export, reopening completed results, background-worker suspension, tab cleanup, all five formats and multilingual extraction. Type checks, package validation and dependency audit pass.
Download the Chromium Store ZIP below for manual installation. The Edge Store update uses the same verified ZIP. Chrome Store submission remains deferred pending publisher sign-in.
GetTranscript v1.1.0
GetTranscript 1.1.0 makes exporting captions easier to read and use.
- A 520px popup sizes itself to its content, up to 560px. Loading, empty and restricted-page states stay compact; export controls remain accessible.
- Caption languages are discovered dynamically from supported players. Stream speaker matching uses structural metadata, localized numeric times and exact text matching. Ambiguous matches remain unnamed and native VTT speaker tags are preserved.
- Markdown keeps each bold timestamp and speaker directly above the caption, with a hard line break and one blank line between cue blocks.
- Refreshed help and Store artwork. All processing stays local, with the same extension permissions.
Validated with 23 unit tests, 14 loaded-extension tests in Chrome and Edge, actual toolbar popup tests (including keyboard interaction and 150% scaling), CommonMark rendering, and the original Stream meeting: 315 captions with 315 speaker labels. GitHub CI also runs the actual toolbar tests.
Languages are those exposed by supported players. This release does not add translation or speech-to-text generation.
The Chromium Store ZIP is shared unchanged across distribution channels. Chrome Store submission remains deferred pending publisher sign-in.
GetTranscript v1.0.1
This release corrects the compact toolbar label to meet the Store character limit. The product name remains GetTranscript — Video Transcript Exporter.
GetTranscript exports the captions already available on a video page into a file you can keep, edit or reuse.
- Export VTT, SRT, plain text, Markdown or JSON.
- Preserve existing speaker tags and match speaker labels on supported Microsoft Stream recordings.
- Keep precise timestamps, including overlapping captions.
- Choose a caption language and preview the result before downloading.
- Process transcripts locally, with access to the selected tab only when you open the extension.
Supports standard Microsoft Stream recording pages on SharePoint and HTML5 players that expose readable caption tracks. It does not generate transcripts from audio. Open cross-origin embedded players on their original page.
