Downloading and Installing
We have not released the Android app through the google App Store, so you’ll need to get the app onto your device through other means.
The latest release will be in the form of an .apk file available through the SCANS GitHub pages at https://github.com/SCANS-Survey/scansapp/releases
A direct link to the apk file for the latest release is https://github.com/SCANS-Survey/scansapp/releases/download/V1.1/scansapp_1.1.apk
The easiest thing to do, particularly if this is your own device, setup with email, etc. is to make sure your device is connected to the Internet, and email, or text, the above link to yourself, then click on the link and the file will download.
As you download and run the installer, you will receive a number of security warnings all of which you have to accept /ignore and the app will install.
Download warning: Select 'Download anyway'
Tap on 'Open'
Let Android perform a security scan
Tap on 'Install'
Tap on 'Open' or find the icon on your home screen and launch from there.
The scansapp icon should then appear on one of the desktop screens as for any other app.
Copy the apk file onto a memory stick. If the memory stick has a USBC connector, then you can probably plug this directly into your phone, otherwise use an adapter for a USB-3 device. Find the Android ‘Files’ app and under All Storage, you’ll see your drive – on my phone with an old memory stick, it’s coming up as ‘DataTraveler 3’.
Find the app on a connected memory stick.
Find the file, tap on it, and install as above, ignoring warnings.
