Installation
Download an AMAI release and choose the script set that matches your Warcraft III version. See Home#supported-warcraft-iii-versions for the compatibility table.
Work on copies of maps. Installing AMAI changes the map archive, and protected Windows locations can prevent those changes from being saved.
Most installation methods need writable .w3m or .w3x map files. A useful location is:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI\
For Warcraft III 1.30 and later, extract Blizzard maps from the game storage with CascView, then install AMAI into the extracted copies.
- Download and extract the installer release ZIP.
- Keep the supplied
Scriptsdirectory besideamai-installer.exe. The installer validates it at startup and reads the compiled AI from it. - Start
amai-installer.exe. - Select a map or a directory, the matching script version, and a Commander mode.
- Leave Optimised Scripts enabled unless you specifically need readable compiled scripts.
The language override sets the default AMAI/Commander language and skips the opening language prompt.
Run a version-specific installer from the extracted AMAI directory:
.\InstallREFORGEDToMap.bat "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI\Example.w3x" 1Replace REFORGED with TFT or ROC when appropriate. The last argument is:
| Value | Result |
|---|---|
0 |
AMAI without Commander |
1 |
AMAI with Commander |
2 |
AMAI on odd-numbered teams and Blizzard AI on even-numbered teams |
With Perl installed, recursively install into all .w3m and .w3x files in a directory:
perl .\InstallToDir.pl REFORGED "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI" 1Use MPQEditor.exe or another MPQ editor to copy the contents of Scripts\<VERSION> into the map's internal Scripts directory.
- For Commander mode, include
Scripts\<VERSION>\Blizzard.jasScripts\Blizzard.j. - For VS Vanilla AI mode, overlay
Scripts\<VERSION>\vsai\*.aiand itsBlizzard.jafter the normal scripts.
The bundled scripts are generated files. Customize the source tables and .eai files, rebuild, and then install the regenerated output; do not maintain edits only in Scripts.
This makes AMAI available to compatible melee maps without modifying each map.
On Windows, enable local files:
reg add "HKCU\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III" /v "Allow Local Files" /t REG_DWORD /d 1On macOS:
defaults write com.blizzard.Warcraft\ III "Allow Local Files" -int 1Copy the selected version's .ai files and Blizzard.j into a Scripts directory:
- Warcraft III 1.32.6 and earlier: the game directory.
- Warcraft III 1.32.7 and later:
_retail_\Scriptsor_ptr_\Scriptsunder the game directory.
Then start a custom game on a standard melee map.
.\UninstallCommander.bat "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI\Example.w3x"
.\Uninstall.bat "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI\Example.w3x"For a directory of maps:
perl .\UninstallDir.pl "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Warcraft III\Maps\AMAI" 1
