STALKER GAMMA COMMANDER v1.3.1

COMMANDER v1.3.1 What's New

stalker-gamma-cli 1.36.1

The bundled stalker-gamma-cli by FaithBeam has been updated from 1.35.0 to 1.36.1.

  • Fixed a crash to desktop when selecting the AK Shakal (and probably other items). The GAMMA repository is now extracted last, so its files are no longer overwritten by the other setup repositories. To fix an existing install, run Apply Updates or GAMMA Reset once from the Utilities page in COMMANDER.
  • Clearer download errors — a failed download now says which URL failed, what went wrong and what to try (check your connection or DNS, firewall / VPN / proxy, system clock, HTTPS-intercepting antivirus, blocked HTTP/3), instead of a bare returned error code.

1.36.1 is the same build as 1.36.0 apart from a fix to FaithBeam's Windows package upload.

Profiles Page Redesign

The Profiles page has been rebuilt from the ground up around profile cards, so managing several installs or MO2 profiles is quicker and clearer.

  • Profile cards — every profile is a card showing its name, install state and mod count (enabled / total). The active profile is outlined and marked ACTIVE. Double-click a card to make it active, right-click for more.
  • Overview at a glance — the selected profile shows its install state, mod count and free space on one line, plus its Anomaly, GAMMA and cache folders with ✓ checks. Click a folder to open it.
  • Guided new profile — + New asks what the profile is for: A fresh install (choose new, empty folders and install from the Install page) or Another MO2 profile on an existing install (uses the same Anomaly, GAMMA and cache folders with its own mod list, which starts as a copy of the chosen profile's).
  • First-run empty state — with no profiles yet, the page explains what a profile is and offers Create first profile or Import from file....
  • Compare profiles — put any two profiles side by side and see their mod lists lined up, with Differences only / All mods, Swap sides, and a difference count. Double-click a mod to open it in the Mod Manager.
  • Notes and colors — add a note to each profile and tag it with a color (Green, Blue, Purple, Orange, Red, Yellow, Gray). Both follow the profile when it is renamed and are removed when it is deleted.
  • Safer editing — an ● Unsaved changes marker, and a prompt to save or discard before you switch profiles or leave the page. Delete now lists the folders that will be kept on disk (only the COMMANDER profile is removed), warns if MO2 or the game is running under that profile, and works with the Delete key.
  • Simpler form — the advanced Repositories & URLs fields have been removed. Profiles, including imported ones, always use the official GAMMA download sources.

New Features

  • COMMANDER's own title bar — COMMANDER, Deck Mode (windowed) and the Assistant now draw their own title bar, with minimize / maximize / close, dragging, double-click to maximize and edge resizing. Prefer your desktop's title bar? Turn off Use COMMANDER's own title bar in Settings.
  • winetricks is installed automatically — Install Dependencies (desktop and Deck Mode) now downloads a pinned, checksum-verified winetricks into ~/.local/bin when it is missing, instead of asking you to install it from your package manager. On Steam Deck this means it survives SteamOS updates.
  • Crash log — if COMMANDER itself crashes in native (Qt) code, a Python stack is now written to crash.log next to the other logs, so the cause can be found.

Improvements

  • Assistant overhaul — findings are grouped into Fix these first, Worth checking and Good to know, no action needed (collapsed). A one-line verdict at the top tells you whether anything needs fixing, logs have plain-language names (e.g. "Game engine log"), messages are written in plain language, and there is a search box. Routine, harmless log lines are marked "Nothing to do. This is normal."
  • Assistant: logs up to 64 MB are now analysed (larger logs from COMMANDER's own log dump were skipped), a broken crash block no longer hides the rest of the log, and very noisy MO2 virtual file system logs are handled much faster.
  • Seamless background — the bottom status bar now sits on the same background as the rest of the window instead of a separate dark strip. Tab labels and the header counters are better aligned.
  • Mod installs no longer use the system temp folder — archives are extracted inside the GAMMA folder, so a multi-GB mod can't fill RAM on systems where /tmp is in memory (Arch, SteamOS), and the final move is instant.
  • Verify no longer reports "issues" for mods that are simply missing from the community mod list. They are listed as "could not be verified, not file corruption", and the result shows Verify complete.
  • Many slow operations now run in the background instead of freezing the window: Install Dependencies' check, prefix repair (Play and Utilities), Export diagnostics, deleting mods, cleanup after installs, moving a mod aside before a reinstall, deleting a backup, renaming an MO2 profile and connecting to Discord.
  • Tools installed in ~/.local/bin (umu-run, winetricks) are now found when COMMANDER is started from Steam / Game Mode or straight into Deck Mode.
  • The Mod Manager's mod list now uses the newest GAMMA mod list of the install, even if it lives in another MO2 profile.
  • The Display scale Apply button no longer says "Applied" after you pick a different value.

Critical Fixes

  • Move Game can no longer delete your only copy of the game — after a Move Game that was interrupted, or whose ModOrganizer.ini update failed, the startup prompt could offer to delete the moved folders even though the originals were already gone, saves included. It now only offers cleanup while the originals still exist, and otherwise tells you the new location is your live install.
  • GAMMA Reset no longer locks the app — a GAMMA Reset with "keep settings" (the default) crashed at the very end and left every page stuck as "busy" until COMMANDER was restarted.
  • Installs started from Steam are no longer reported as failed — in Game Mode (or any time COMMANDER runs from its Steam shortcut), the Steam overlay's loader messages made installs, updates, repairs and profile actions look like failures. A repair that looked failed then put the old broken mods back.
  • Downloads work again right after a COMMANDER self-update — previously every update check and download failed until COMMANDER was closed and reopened by hand.
  • FOMOD options that rename a file now install correctly — an option that installs e.g. foo_v2.ltx as foo.ltx created a folder named foo.ltx, so the game never loaded it.
  • Cancelling Verify & Repair is now safe — the set-aside mods were put back while the installer was still writing to the same folders. COMMANDER now waits for the installer to stop first.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed COMMANDER crashing on the first key press with the AppImage on Linux Mint 22 / Ubuntu 24.04 (mismatched libxkbcommon libraries).
  • Fixed COMMANDER aborting when the Welcome screen was closed while it was still loading patch notes.
  • Fixed a new profile meant as a copy of another getting the stock GAMMA mod list instead of the copy.
  • Fixed the controller in Deck Mode occasionally misreading every input after a partial read, until reconnected.
  • Fixed Deck Mode replacing a mod folder if an install started or the game was launched while the "Replace" confirmation was open.
  • Fixed a failed reinstall sometimes losing the previous version of the mod.
  • Fixed interrupted mod installs looking like finished ones (they are now marked as incomplete).
  • Fixed pressing Cancel repeatedly starting several kill timers for the same task.
  • Fixed a GAMMA repository URL with too few path parts producing a broken update check.
  • Fixed GAMMA's own modified engine files being reported as corrupt in the Assistant.
  • Renaming an MO2 profile in the Mod Manager now keeps any COMMANDER profile pointing to it, and the renamed profile stays selected.
  • Fixed a pre-update / pre-repair backup crashing on any file dated before 1980.
  • Fixed Verify Integrity in Deck Mode flagging every file as changed after a GAMMA install or update.
  • Fixed Quit Game staying disabled after a log dump, backup or mod install was run while the game was open.
  • Fixed the Mod Manager getting stuck on "Loading MO2 profiles…" when it was refreshed during a load.
  • Fixed the Dashboard's MO2 profile switcher showing only the configured profile on first view.
  • Fixed a reinstall that was refused (MO2 started meanwhile) leaving the mod hidden and the next install missing from the modlist.
  • Fixed Move Installation wrongly reporting "Old paths remain" when the new folder's path contained the old one.
  • Fixed Open MO2 in the Mod Manager (and the Help page's prefix display) using the previous runner's Wine prefix after the runner was changed.
  • Fixed categories you created leaking into a different MO2 profile when switching profiles in the Mod Manager.
  • Fixed the Move Installation window closing on Escape mid-move, leaving no way to see progress or cancel.
  • Fixed the Discord Test button freezing the window for a couple of seconds.
  • Fixed a GE-Proton build showing as installed when only a similarly named one was (e.g. GE-Proton9-1 vs GE-Proton9-10).
  • Fixed archives disappearing from the install progress table after their download finished, hiding the extract step.
  • Fixed hovering the mod list trapping the page scroll at the top/bottom of the list.
  • Fixed COMMANDER offering to update itself while an install was running, which could leave two copies open.
  • Fixed a GAMMA update being offered when your installed build was newer than the remote one.
  • Fixed Deck Mode starting an install or update that was confirmed after another task or MO2 had started.
  • Fixed a Deck Mode launch error leaving the session stuck as running.
  • An unreadable settings.json (e.g. wrong permissions) is no longer treated as corrupt and replaced. Your profiles are left untouched.

Security

  • winetricks downloads are pinned to an exact release and verified against a SHA-256 checksum before being installed.
  • meta.ini and the Steam shortcuts backup are written atomically.
