Sill 0.5.1
Sill for Mac 0.5.1 gives away from home a quality of its own: a session through your VPN starts low enough for a slow connection, and your Mac tells your iPhone or iPad when the link can't keep up. With Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1, the session also moves to your network by itself when you get home. Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1 is made for iPhone Duo.
One version number for both apps. From this release on, Sill for Mac and Sill for iPhone and iPad share one version number: this is 0.5.1 for both (Sill for Mac goes from 0.4.0 to 0.5.1; there is no 0.4.1). Sill for Mac 0.5.1 goes with Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1 (4), and each still works with the other's versions back to pairing at home (Sill for Mac 0.4.0, Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5 (2)): the away quality and the link's notice come from Sill for Mac 0.5.1, and the notice also needs the new iPhone and iPad app. Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1 is on the App Store, listed as "Sill – Mac Streaming": https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816359860. If you build it from source, build it from this release's tag.
Coming from Sill for Mac 0.3.1 or earlier? After you update, pair each iPhone and iPad with your Mac once, also one you paired for Remote Access before: since 0.4.0 your Mac pairs devices at home and keeps its keys in a safer place, where it starts with a new key.
New in 0.5.1
- Made for iPhone Duo, in Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1 (built with the iOS 27.1 SDK): open it flat and your Mac fills the inner display; half open, it's a laptop, the picture above the fold and a trackpad and keys below; closed, Sill runs on the cover display. Nothing you touch sits on the fold.
- Away from home, a session starts at Low · Standard until you pick another quality for away, and your home quality stays as it was (Settings › Streaming has both). Your Mac tells your iPhone or iPad when the link can't keep up, and suggests a quality it can carry. When you get home, the session moves to your network by itself.
- Fixed in Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5.1: after Sill for Mac 0.4.0 gave your Mac a new key, a device you paired again could show your Mac twice away from home, its name and its name with "(2)", and only the second worked. Tap the one without "(2)" with Tailscale on: it connects, the "(2)" row goes, and the one left has your Mac's plain name.
Requirements. A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later with Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5 (2) or later (0.5.1 for the link's notice, the move home and the fix above).
Good to know. Remote Access, over Tailscale or another VPN you run, is still off by default. Once it is on, a device you paired at home learns how to reach your Mac from other networks the next time it connects at home. Once a day Sill asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and never downloads anything by itself.

Sill 0.4.0
Sill for Mac 0.4.0 pairs your iPhone and iPad at home: by default only the devices you pair can connect to your Mac, and every connection is encrypted.
Update Sill on your iPhone and iPad too. This release goes with Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5 (2) or later, and at home each needs the other: an iPhone or iPad with an older Sill can't connect to this Mac on your network (the Sill menu then says "An iPhone or iPad Needs Sill Updated"), and the new iPhone and iPad app shows a Mac with Sill for Mac 0.3.1 or earlier as "Update Sill". Sill for iPhone and iPad has been on the App Store since October 8, 2026: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816359860. If you build it from source, build it from this release's tag.
Pair each device again after you update. After you update Sill for Mac to 0.4.0, each iPhone and iPad pairs with it once more, also one you paired for Remote Access before: 0.4.0 keeps its keys in a safer place and starts there with a new key, so no earlier pairing counts.
New in 0.4.0
- Pairing at home. Each iPhone or iPad pairs once. Tap your Mac on the device, and your Mac opens its pairing window by itself: scan the QR code, or type the 12 digits. Over a USB cable the device pairs by itself while your Mac is unlocked, and your Mac shows a notice with Remove. Connections on your network, over the cable and over Direct Wireless Connection now use TLS 1.3, as Remote Access always did, with each end pinned to the other's key once they are paired.
- Settings › Devices, a new tab: the devices you paired (moved from Remote Access), with rename and Remove, Pair iPhone or iPad…, and Require pairing, on by default. Turned off, any device on your network can connect without pairing, still encrypted.
- The menus of the app you're using, on your iPhone or iPad: in the iPad's own menu bar on iPadOS 26 or later, and behind a Menus button in the bar. Sill for Mac reads each menu as you open it and chooses the item you pick, through Accessibility. Never the Apple menu, never Sill's own.
- Three-finger gestures: swipe up for Mission Control, down for App Exposé, left and right between Spaces, pinch for Apps, spread for Show Desktop. Sill uses the keyboard shortcuts your Mac has for them (System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts); one that is turned off there does nothing. So far they have been tried on macOS 27 only.
- Slow connections: a large keyframe no longer stalls a stream away from home for seconds at a time, and with Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5 (2) a slow link no longer ends the session while a large frame is still on its way.
- Keys in a safer place: Sill for Mac now keeps its keys and the list of devices you paired in a part of your Mac's keychain that only Sill can read, and that never leaves this Mac.
- Fixed: after the Spotlight key, a key of the key row or a latched ⌘ with a key, ⌘ no longer stays down on your Mac, so the next tap is a plain click. Every key's release leaves down only the keys still held, and shortcuts from your iPhone or iPad press their modifier keys as a keyboard does.
Requirements. A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and Sill for iPhone and iPad 0.5 (2) or later.
Good to know. Remote Access, over Tailscale or another VPN you run, is still off by default. Once it is on, a device you paired at home learns how to reach your Mac from other networks the next time it connects at home. Once a day Sill asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and never downloads anything by itself.

Sill for Mac 0.4.0 (498), notarized. SHA-256 of Sill.dmg: 70abd10b4d47fb4e2132c91ac0e998138e27f79bc9f56459d9b4a2fd6b515e83 · of Sill.zip: 033e1064daa5c5613e088f2eda02c4f261ec7dca97da92415c81e9a24938a455. Download at https://getsill.app/download
Sill 0.3.1
An older release. For the current version, see https://getsill.app/download. Sill for iPhone and iPad is now on the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816359860), and on your network it doesn't connect to this version of Sill for Mac: it shows the Mac as "Update Sill". Sill for Mac 0.4.0 and later pair each device by default and encrypt every connection.
Sill for Mac now comes as a disk image. Open Sill.dmg, drag Sill onto the Applications folder in the window that opens, then eject the disk. Sill.zip stays attached for older links.
New in 0.3.1
- Sill.dmg, signed with a Developer ID, notarized by Apple and stapled, like the app inside it.
- The Mac's own pointer on your iPhone or iPad. When someone at the Mac moves the pointer, Sill for iPhone and iPad shows the Mac's real pointer in its real shape; when you drive from the device, the device draws its own arrow only for the portrait trackpad. This needs the next build of the iPhone and iPad app; with an older one nothing changes.
- The app no longer carries a sample network name from development.
Requirements. A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later. The iPhone and iPad app is on its way to TestFlight and the App Store; until then you can build it from the source in this repository.
Good to know. On your own network, a device running Sill can still connect without pairing while Sill for Mac is open (the Mac accepts connections only from its own networks and links); pairing at home comes in a later release. Remote access, over Tailscale or another VPN you run, is off by default and always requires pairing. Once a day Sill asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and never downloads anything by itself.

Sill 0.3.0
An older release. For the current version, see https://getsill.app/download. Sill for iPhone and iPad is now on the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816359860), and on your network it doesn't connect to this version of Sill for Mac: it shows the Mac as "Update Sill". Sill for Mac 0.4.0 and later pair each device by default and encrypt every connection.
The first release of Sill for Mac: a free, open-source companion that streams one Mac window at a time to the Sill app on iPhone and iPad, and sends touch, Pencil, trackpad and keyboard input back.
Requirements. A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later. The iPhone and iPad app is on its way to TestFlight; until it is public, this release is for people who build the iOS app from the source in this repository.
Install. Unzip, move Sill to Applications and open it. It lives in the menu bar. On first run it asks for Screen Recording and Accessibility, which it needs to stream a window and to control it. It creates no account and installs nothing else.
Checksum. Sill.zip.sha256 sits beside the download; compare it with shasum -a 256 Sill.zip. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
Good to know.
- On your own network, a device running Sill can connect to your Mac without pairing (the Mac accepts connections only from its own networks and links). Pairing for home networks comes in the next release.
- Remote access, over Tailscale or another VPN you run, is off by default and always requires pairing with the QR code or the typed code the Mac shows.
- Once a day Sill asks GitHub whether a newer version exists (Settings › General turns that off). It never downloads or installs anything by itself.
- Direct Wireless Connection (peer-to-peer Wi-Fi to devices that share no network with the Mac) is off by default.
