RimDeck 1.2.1

Fixes

  • No more freezes while mod DLLs are read. Listing mod settings and analysing Harmony patches read several hundred mod DLLs in one go, which could make the window stop responding for a while, especially right after a restart, when nothing was cached yet. They're now read in the background.
  • Save backups no longer pile up. Starting the game backs up your newest save as before, but only when it changed since the last backup, and only the newest 10 backups are kept (saves are often 50 MB or more).

Diagnostics

  • If RimDeck ever stops responding, it now notes when, for how long and what it was doing in logs/responsiveness.log in its data folder (%APPDATA%\RimDeck on Windows), so the cause can be found.

macOS and Linux

  • RimDeck now runs on macOS and Linux. Download the .dmg for Apple Silicon or Intel Macs, or the .AppImage or .deb for Linux, from this release.
  • RimDeck finds Steam, RimWorld and RimSort on each system, including Flatpak Steam on Linux and the game inside RimWorldMac.app on macOS.
  • macOS uses its own window buttons, and shortcuts show the ⌘ keys.
  • Updates: Windows and the Linux AppImage install them automatically. On macOS RimDeck tells you about a new version and opens the download, because Mac apps that aren't code-signed can't update themselves.
  • RimDeck isn't code-signed yet. On macOS, if it says the app can't be opened, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

RimWorld 1.6

  • RimWorld 1.6 is treated as the main version: when the game's version can't be read, RimDeck now assumes 1.6 rather than the 1.7 alpha. Everything (sorting, problem checks, mod settings, Continue) works the same on 1.6 and 1.7.

RimDeck 1.1.2

Fixes

  • No more "Mod folders changed" pop-ups at startup. On PCs where Windows records when files were last accessed, merely reading mod files looked like a change to RimDeck's folder watcher, so starting RimDeck showed several of these messages and rescanned for nothing. RimDeck now rescans only when mods are really added, removed or updated.

Continue

  • New Continue button next to Play. It saves your load order, starts RimWorld and opens your most recent save as soon as the game has loaded. The tooltip shows which save that is and when it was saved.
  • Play this save on the Saves page now opens that save directly, instead of leaving you to pick it from the menu.
  • RimWorld has no built-in way to start into a save, so this uses a tiny helper mod, "RimDeck Continue", which RimDeck installs and activates the first time you use it. It does nothing unless you launch with Continue. It loads saves the same way the game's Load menu does: if a save's mods really differ from yours, the game's own mismatch warning still appears.

Fixes

  • Play works with RimWorld 1.7's new game folder layout (RimWorld.exe with the game code next to it). RimDeck also reads 1.7's game code there to fill in choices in mod settings.
  • Saving the load order right before launching no longer shows a false "ModsConfig.xml was changed outside RimDeck" banner.

New look

  • Steel and rust. A new palette taken from the RimDeck logo: weathered steel panels with rust-orange highlights, in place of the old purple.
  • Machined buttons. Buttons look like pressed metal plates, and main actions like Play, Save and Configure are stamped plates with clipped corners. Switches and segmented controls sit in recessed slots.
  • Light and System themes. Settings → Appearance and data has a Theme option: Dark, a parchment Light theme, or System to follow Windows. The window buttons follow the theme too.
  • New accent colours: rust, amber, moss, steel, verdigris, brick and bone. Installs that still used the old purple accent switch to rust.

Fixes

  • If the game fails to start, or a watched mods or config folder is deleted or unplugged, RimDeck shows an error instead of closing.
  • Play no longer starts the game when saving the load order fails.
  • Settings, ModsConfig.xml and mod settings are written atomically with retries, so a crash or antivirus lock can't leave a half-written file.
  • Notes and tags you are typing are saved to the right mod when you click another one.
  • Switching profiles and updating community rules now refresh the Problems list straight away.
  • Undo and redo re-check XML conflicts; the drag-and-drop marker, the inactive mod count and the "also activated" count are fixed.
  • Updated mods get fresh Harmony and namespace information without a restart.

Under the hood

  • The mod list no longer re-renders every row on unrelated changes, so large lists stay responsive.
  • Faster XML indexing and rule inference on big mod lists.
  • Keyboard and screen-reader support for switches, colour swatches and icon buttons.
  • Removed unused code and merged duplicated helpers.

Mod settings, as the game shows them

  • Labels from the game's settings window. RimDeck reads each mod's settings window code and its English language files, so settings show the same names and tooltips as in game ("Prioritize indoor cleaning" instead of PriorityIndoorCleaning). About 780 of 1,400 settings across a large mod list get their in-game label; the rest keep a readable version of the code name.
  • Sliders with the mod's own limits. Number settings that the game shows as sliders get a slider with the same minimum and maximum.
  • Lists and dictionaries can be edited. Add or remove entries in lists (for example disabled mental breaks), and add or remove key and value pairs in dictionaries.
  • More setting types. Ranges (two fields), colours (colour picker), vectors, nested settings objects and grouped settings are now read from the mod's code, as are settings saved through a mod's own helper methods and defaults set in constructors.
  • Settings whose default is only known at runtime are shown as "Game default" and can still be set.

Every mod setting, not just the changed ones

RimWorld only writes a setting to its Config file once it differs from the default, so many mods showed little or nothing to edit.

  • RimDeck now reads each mod's settings, their types and their defaults from the mod's DLL (without running it) and shows all of them in the settings editor.
  • Mods whose settings were never changed are listed on the Mod settings page too ("All defaults"); saving creates their settings file in the same format the game uses.
  • Choice settings get a dropdown with the available options, and settings changed from their default have a reset-to-default button.

Clearer mod settings editor

  • List entries are named after their key, def or type instead of showing as [0], [1].
  • Setting names are shown in readable form ("Overview letter sent" instead of overviewLetterSent); the original name is in the tooltip.
  • Empty values, empty lists and entries that only hold default values are labelled instead of showing blank boxes.
  • Dictionaries whose values are objects are grouped under each key.
  • Colours get a colour picker next to the value.
  • Large files open with their sections collapsed, with Expand all and Collapse all buttons.

Mod settings page

  • Mod settings now have their own page in the sidebar, right under Problems, instead of sitting inside Settings.
  • Lists every mod with saved settings, with a filter for active mods or all installed mods, a search box, and Configure and Reset buttons on each row.
  • Leftover settings from uninstalled mods can be cleaned up from the same page.

Profiles.

  • Profiles: each profile has its own game install (and therefore game version) and its own mods in their own order. Switch profiles from the title bar or the Profiles page. Switching loads the profile into the game. Saving the load order updates the active profile. Your current setup becomes the "Default" profile, and existing mod lists are converted to profiles automatically.
  • App version: the title bar now shows the RimDeck version.
  • Wording: text throughout the app and documentation has been revised for clarity and consistency.

Installed copies of RimDeck update to this version automatically. Otherwise, download RimDeck-Setup-1.0.3.exe below.
