Sandstone Engine build 1009
Sandstone b1009
Map & streaming
- Much faster map loading and steadier streaming.
- Fixed a number of world defects.
Animation & movement
- New animations.
- Parkour: climbing and vaulting over fences.
Camera
- Reworked, with the PS2's field of view. SA's FOV value is HORIZONTAL and was being fed
to the projection as vertical, so the view was about 102 degrees across instead of 70.
Weapons
- All weapons are in. Still rough: animation bugs and other issues remain. The Uzi and
the pistol work well.
Jetpack
- Added, ported from the original: thrust, height ceiling, the leg pendulum and the
tilting nozzles. You can run or fly, and fire while airborne.
The nozzle flame is not implemented yet.
HUD & map
- The minimap and the pause-menu map are now high resolution.
- Larger, readable weapon icons, ammo, money and health bar.
- Scalable crosshair.
Audio
- Fixed the radio dropout, and station changes now play the original's static.
Performance
- Performance preset: a steady 30 FPS.
- Balance preset: adaptive draw distance, aiming at 30 FPS with occasional dips. The far
horizon now eases in and out with the frame time instead of switching off, so the
distant world no longer appears and vanishes. - Quality preset: the original game's draw distance, moving with the weather exactly as
the PS2 does.
Plus many smaller fixes.
Build your own data with Quarry v1009
from a PS2 disc image you own. No game assets are included here.
Copy every folder under data/ to the memory stick - a partial copy still boots but
quietly loses the loading-screen art, the sound and the animations.
Sandstone Engine build 797
Wheels: a car carries one wheel mesh, modelled for the right-hand side, and the left side is that mesh mirrored across the axle. Drawn unmirrored, the left dish faced into the arch and the wheel read as pressed in and dark. Both sides now roll forwards as well; the spin sign had been inverted from the start and stayed invisible while both sides were wrong together.
Audio: the PS2 stream layout is read correctly, feeder threads get partition-backed stacks, and SFX stop at their end flag instead of clicking. Interiors draw decals rather than alpha-testing them into black specks. The HUD waits until the player is actually seated before showing the speedometer and the radio.
Needs data built with Quarry v797.
