Chess Engine v1.0.2

Chess Engine v1.0.2 is a maintenance release introducing the official blue/teal Chess Engine branding and a new Windows-native application package.

The primary Windows launch experience is now a branded Chess Engine.exe with the Java runtime bundled inside the application.

One download includes the Chess Engine application, bundled Java runtime, and all supported exact endgame tablebases.

Quick Start

  1. Download and extract Chess-Engine-v1.0.2-windows.zip.

  2. Open the extracted Chess Engine folder.

  3. Double-click:

    Chess Engine.exe

That's it.

A separate Java installation is not required.

Stockfish 18 remains optional.

  • Added the logo to the primary application window
  • Added a branded Windows Chess Engine.exe launcher
  • Bundled the required Java runtime with the Windows application
  • Removed the generic Java JAR as the primary user-facing launch target
  • Added packaged classpath logo resources
  • Added a multi-resolution Windows ICO derived from the official logo
  • Preserved existing chess engine, GUI, Stockfish, search, trainer, and tablebase functionality

This is a branding and Windows-packaging maintenance release; no chess/search behavior was intentionally changed.

Windows Distribution

The Windows package contains a complete application image, including:

  • Chess Engine.exe
  • Bundled Java runtime
  • Chess Engine application files
  • All supported exact endgame tablebases
  • Optional Stockfish integration support
  • License and runtime documentation

Users do not need to install Java separately.

v1.0.2 passed release verification including:

  • Clean Maven build
  • Windows jpackage app-image generation
  • Branded EXE icon verification
  • All seven embedded EXE icon frames matched the blue/teal application icon
  • Direct Chess Engine.exe launch
  • Bundled JVM loading
  • Application window-icon verification
  • Application startup and clean shutdown
  • Launch from an unrelated directory with Java removed from PATH
  • Core regression verification
  • Tablebase loading and routing
  • 128 MiB KP-KP verification
  • Optional Stockfish automatic discovery and forced-mate testing
  • Verification of all 36 unchanged tablebases
  • ZIP integrity and packaged-file verification
  • No developer-machine paths in the Windows distribution
  • No loose top-level JAR or ICO exposed as the primary application

GUI verification used temporary memory limits where needed because of host-memory pressure. Packaged runtime settings were not changed.
