Fixes

• Fix Qe7 review rollback and make solution rows selectable. Keep the board, played history, review selection and turn indicator synchronized.
• Show exact Hint/Give Up results, preserve overlapping Give Up requests, and discard stale help after reset or puzzle changes.
• Preserve saved puzzles, playback order and current attempts across reset and restart.
• Display the packaged application version in the window badge.

Windows package

Extract the complete Chess-Engine-v1.0.4-windows.zip and launch Chess Engine.exe. Java 26 and all 36 required tablebases are bundled. Stockfish is optional.

Verified from a fresh ZIP extraction with native Windows mouse input: launch, manual Qe7, completed Hint, Give Up, solution selection, Previous/Next, reset, saved-order replay and restart. The separate automated Qe7, trainer and persistence checks passed on the same package.

Quick Start

A separate Java installation is not required.

Stockfish 18 remains optional and is not bundled.

Desktop verification was performed locally rather than in a fresh Windows VM. The previously recorded expensive regression suite was not repeated for this artifact recovery.

Running the Application

After extracting the ZIP, double-click:

The application automatically detects and uses the included tablebases/ directory.

No additional tablebase installation is required.

Stockfish

Stockfish 18 is optional.

Chess Engine works without Stockfish. Stockfish is only required for the optional reference-engine comparison and continuation-analysis features.

To enable Stockfish:

1. Download Stockfish 18 from the official website:

   https://stockfishchess.org/download/

2. Extract the Stockfish download.

3. Locate the Stockfish .exe file.

4. Copy that .exe into the included:

   stockfish/
   

   folder.

5. Double-click:

   Chess-Engine-v1.0.0.jar
   

Chess Engine will automatically detect the Stockfish executable.

No PowerShell configuration or environment-variable setup is required.

Scope

v1.0 focuses on persistent graph-based search, exact small-material endgames, analysis tooling, and experimentation with nontraditional search scheduling.

The native search is not intended to replace conventional state-of-the-art alpha-beta chess engines in raw playing strength.

Five-piece and larger tablebases are outside the scope of v1.0 and are planned for future development.
