This build fixes some bugs that caused problems for some people loading into spaces and also issues with textures rendering strange at certain angels. This build also adds graphics options ot the build for you to play with (@opticvr 😉) and it also fixes an problem wehre you needed to clear the cache after you uploaded your world! There is also some other fixes and improvements in there behind the scenes.

This release also adds MCP support to the client (run Altspace MCP.cmd and use the below configuration).

JSON MCP configuration

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greenfield": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "http://127.0.0.1:42070/mcp"
    }
  }

Thats all for this one folks!

The build has a few quality of life improvements!

ezgif-557b5bc2c81dae1a
  • The character no longer slides around on surfaces that are not flat.
  • The space history does not return you to the last space you were in when you relaunch - alweays back to the campfire
  • FIxed up the menu, added Go button on the addressbar, a rejoin button (placement), toggle dev tools and respawn.
  • FIxed a bug that was stripping navigation engine components.
  • You can now press both sticks to go back to the campfire if a space fails to load - open the menu in 2D.
  • Some more fixes!

We may not have more updates for a few weeks while we ramp up the networking, user system, menu and avatars.

Excited to deliver an amzing next update when its ready!

frame_6a69ccb13deae4 63099682 This one is still **offline/single player** but it adds a bunch of enhancements for world builders, a bunch of fixes and some really cool new features too.
  • A new daytime space for the campfire, new texturing.
  • A whole new Unity upload system, you can create and upload to worlds straight from the Unity Uploader!
  • Select which world from a drop down, no need to mess with space slugs!
  • Newly uploaded worlds are encrypted, with a flalback for loading unencrypted worlds too.
  • A log uploader to help us track things down when things arent working right.
  • Fixes to space loading to make sure you can always load in.
  • FIxed the graphics API on windows to fix pink shaders.
  • A compelte rebrand of teh SDK moving away from Banter naming conventions.
  • A Quest Native build! You can sideload it with SideQuest, but if thats too much hassle then please fill out this form to be added to a Beta on Meta to get it without sideloading:
  • A bunch of other fixes and improvements!

I want to also tell you about some conversations Ive been having with Greg Fodor, who was one of the most prolific tech leadears in the original Altspace days before Microsoft. He has been working on a product called PortalVR which extends the capabilities of desktop VR applications to include motion controllers, hand and head tracking, and 3D display/AR support, and we're going to include those features in the 2D version of the AltspaceVR beta to see what the community thinks. Though not all of them are inegrated with Altspace yet, we hope to get them all implemented in the near future.

  • Support for VR controllers in 2d mode, Quest 1/2/3, PICO 3/4, Galaxy XR (Vive and Index controllers aren't working yet with the standalone runtime version)
  • Joy-Con 1 + 2 tracking on webcam or iPhone
  • Smartphone controller (iPhone or Android app that turns the phone into a 6dof controller)
  • Head/Face/Hand tracking
  • Support for Odyssey 3D and other leia 3d displays, VITURE and XREAL AR glasses, and general SBS mode. also anaglyph trioviz glasses

A huge thanks to Greg Fodor for all his work over the years tirelesly working to make Altspace great and now for bringing this free enhancement to make non-vr users more present in the world with you.

Ok here it is folks! This is the build you can have a play with. Here is the info from the announcement for your reference.

I want to be clear, this is not the final product, and its no where near it. This is not intended for most users, just world builders. Here are a bunch of gotchas:

  • This version is single player only. The largest part of this build is a fully bespoke live networking service for voice and data that will enable multiplayer - this is not in yet at all.
  • This version does not yet include avatars - hands only for now but we based them on some of the originals 😉.
  • This version is using the base character controller configuration from Banter - we have not yet tweaked it for AltspaceVR so it still has all the physics bells and whistles.
  • This BETA will be a PC/PCVR - only for this BETA. We are of course releasing on all standalone headsets like Quest/Pico/Steam Frame/Android XR too and also android phones.
  • This will have bugs. Please post anything you find into #bugs. Be as descriptive as you can.

The aim of this is to give world builders the opportunity to test their worlds on this new build, and that is its primary and sole function really. This new build uses URP and you can visit any world you want to create.

How can I create?

Soon an SDK and instructions on how to use it will follow. Installing it into Unity will give you access to tools, code, and an uploader. Right now by default the uploaded worlds still go to the same place that Banter worlds go when you upload them by default as we have not fully stood up the new hosting for Altspace worlds - that being said you can also build and host the worlds anywhere you like such as your own website/server, github pages, bonto, replit, render etc.

I want to re-iterate,

This will be a broken build in many ways,

**Please don't expect it to work, there will be a tonne of problems and we are already aware of some of them. **

Also finally, this build is not signed and will show the windows smart screen filter, you will need to click More Info and then click Run Anyway
