The how-to-Tic Guide

This series of small tutorials teach you how to use Tic and unleash your creativity on this unique language. I assume that the ones that go through this course already have some basic programming knowledge, so I won't explain things like what exactly functions are or how to do arithmetic. What I will teach you is how Tic's pretty unique syntax works and what its compiler expects of your code.

The git repository of this wiki has a samples directory that includes sample files for all major examples in this course. You can easily clone this wiki's repository and check them out.

This course contains the following chapters:

  1. Hello World
In this chapter I will introduce you to Tic in the most traditional way possible: a script that prints "Hello World!" to the screen.
This chapter also shows you how to install the Tic compiler (linux) and how to use it. At the end of this chapter you will have your first Tic script compiled and executable!

  2. Variables
In this chapter you will learn how to declare, set and use variables! Tic's datatypes will also be explained.
After this chapter you will be able to make simplistic but working programs using Tic!

  3. If-Statements
In this chapter you will learn how to use Tic's if-statements. The variations of said statement, including if-else, if-elseif-else, etc. will also be discussed. Comparisons will too be addressed in this chapter.

THIS COURSE IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT. THE NEXT CHAPTERS ARE BEING WORKED ON.

  1. Control Flow

    • while loops
    • for loops
    • switch-case
  2. Functions

    • function declaration
    • call
    • return
  3. Advanced Keywords

    • exit / sleep / startwith
    • use (importing)
