Serial Command Sender [1.5.0] - 2026-09-18

Choose a tag to compare

@SkasLT SkasLT released this 18 Sep 09:57

Added

  • Load Command File button to select a .h header from any folder, with the active file's full path displayed below the button.
  • Custom icon for the Windows executable, application window, and taskbar, embedded in the executable with no extra icon file required.

Changed

  • The application now opens without a command header beside the executable. If no single header is discovered automatically, choose one after launch.
  • Headers can be reloaded without restarting. Canceling the picker or selecting an invalid file preserves the active command set.
  • A successful load disconnects an active serial session, replaces commands and ACK decoding, and resets the search and decoded display. Reconnect to resume communication.

Downloads

  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.5.0-source.zip: all tracked repository files, including source, icon, tests, build scripts, documentation, license, example headers, and the executable in dist/.
  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.5.0-windows-portable.zip: the executable and an optional example command header. The executable can be copied on its own; use Load Command File to select your device's header wherever it is stored. Python is not required.

Keep your customized command header when upgrading. This release retains mouse-wheel scrolling and 24-hour message timestamps.

Validation

  • All 12 automated tests passed, including header selection, cancellation, invalid-file recovery, serial loopback, and timestamps.
  • Verified that the supplied artwork is embedded in the Windows executable and bundled for the application window.
  • Built the Windows executable and Python distributions successfully; release archive contents and upload checksums verified before publication.

Serial Command Sender [1.4.0] - 2026-09-18

@SkasLT SkasLT released this 18 Sep 09:40

Added

  • Local 24-hour [HH:MM:SS] timestamps before every sent, received, decoded, and status message.
  • Matching timestamps for received data and its decoded ACKs, including decoding that finishes after an idle gap.

Changed

  • Updated the application version to 1.4.0, documented timestamp behavior, and rebuilt the Windows executable.

Example

[14:05:09] Sent: 01 0D
[14:05:10] Received: 81 0D
[14:05:10] Decoded return message: "MIXER_STARTED"

Timestamps use the PC's local time. Incoming timestamps are captured when the application reads the bytes; a reply spanning multiple reads uses the time of the read that completes it.

Downloads

  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.4.0-source.zip: all tracked repository files, including Python source, tests, build scripts, documentation, license, example headers, and the executable in dist/.
  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.4.0-windows-portable.zip: only Serial Command Sender.exe and My_device_commands.h. Extract both into the same folder and run the executable. Python is not required. When upgrading an existing installation, keep your customized command header.

Validation

  • All 11 automated tests passed, including serial loopback, timestamp formatting, and receive/decoded timestamp consistency across midnight and delayed decoding.
  • Windows executable built successfully; release archive contents and upload checksums verified before publication.

Serial Command Sender [1.3.0] - 2026-09-16

@SkasLT SkasLT released this 16 Sep 10:42

Added

  • Incoming ACK decoding from the command header, with raw-byte, HEX-text, and DEC-text receive modes.
  • A separate decoded return-message display; Clear Output clears both displays.
  • Mouse-wheel scrolling in the traffic display, decoded-message display, and command list.
  • Installable Python package, command-line header selection, tests, and a Windows executable build script.

Changed

  • Improved serial connection handling and moved GUI updates onto the main thread.
  • Preserved multi-byte command widths and added decimal header values.
  • Reorganized the project around pyproject.toml and the standard src/ package layout.
  • Updated documentation and rebuilt the included Windows executable.

Downloads

  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.3.0-source.zip: all tracked repository files, including Python source, tests, build scripts, documentation, license, example headers, and the executable in dist/.
  • Serial-Command-Sender-v1.3.0-windows-portable.zip: only Serial Command Sender.exe and My_device_commands.h. Extract both into the same folder and run the executable. Python is not required; use a compatible Windows PC with the appropriate serial-adapter driver.

Validation

  • All 10 automated tests passed, including the GUI serial loopback test.
  • Targeted mouse-wheel routing checks passed and the Windows executable built successfully.
  • Archive contents verified. Physical-device behavior still depends on the device protocol; see README for decoding assumptions.
