Block Tags

Trees are recognized through tags, so most tree mods work with no code. Add values from a datapack.

Vanilla tags the mod reads

Tag Meaning
#minecraft:logs Trunks and branches
#minecraft:leaves Canopy. Leaves placed by a player (persistent=true) don't count

A tree needs at least 2 logs and some leaves to be fellable. Trees with no leaves, or logs placed by a player, break normally.

Sable Trees tags

Tag Meaning
sabletrees:tree_foliage Canopy that isn't a leaf block: it counts as canopy and falls with the tree
sabletrees:tree_attachments Blocks attached to the tree that fall or break with it, like hanging fruit
sabletrees:ignored_logs Logs the mod must leave alone

Example

Add palm fronds and hanging coconuts of a mod, in data/sabletrees/tags/block/:

tree_foliage.json

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    { "id": "yourmod:palm_frond", "required": false }
  ]
}

tree_attachments.json

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    { "id": "yourmod:coconut", "required": false }
  ]
}

Use "required": false, so the datapack still loads without that mod.
