Stumps and Chopping Blocks
When a tree falls, the stump stays, roots and all.
- Hard to pull out: with its roots, a stump takes 6 times as long by hand, 4 times with an axe and 2 times with a pickaxe.
- Roots: right-click with a shovel to dig them out. The stump then breaks a bit faster, and the ground under it can be broken.
Right-click a stump with an axe to level it into a chopping block.
- Right-click with a log in hand to put it on top.
- Strike it with an axe to split it into planks. You get 50% more than at a crafting table.
Right-click with an empty hand to take the log back. Chopping blocks never rot.
If Farmer's Delight is installed, the chopping block also works as a cutting board. Place any item on it and right-click with the right tool to use the Farmer's Delight recipes. Striking a log with an axe still splits it into planks; right-clicking it with an axe uses the cutting board recipe.
After 32 food cuts, the block is too dirty for food. It can still split logs. The dirt can't be cleaned, so make a new one from another stump.
Left alone, most stumps slowly rot into a mossy stump that drops bone meal and mushrooms. It takes about 5 Minecraft days on average, and rain speeds it up.
Some stumps grow a new tree instead, about 1 in 4. A stump without its roots never regrows.
