v0.7.0
Every arm64 build of Messenger 580.0.0.49.91 works now, and there are four new switches. 31 patches in all.
New
- View stories anonymously opens other people's stories without putting you on their viewer list (#7). Stories you open this way still show as seen on the People tab and in the story viewer, also after a restart. One spot doesn't follow along yet: the ring around that person's picture in your chat list keeps showing the story as new until it expires.
- Save any story adds Save to the More options menu on other people's stories (#4). Photos and videos download the way your own stories do, and a saved video lands in Movies/Messenger.
- Send photos at original quality. Even with HD on, Messenger re-encodes a photo before sending it, so a 6.4 MB photo went out as about 1.8 MB. With this switch an HD JPEG goes out with its own image data. Its metadata, like location and camera details, stays behind just as it does with Messenger's copy. Photos over 20 MB and videos still get Messenger's compression.
- Material You theme brings your wallpaper's colors into Messenger's dark mode on Android 12 and newer (#16). Turn on dark mode in Messenger first, then use Restart Messenger.
- All 21 arm64 builds APKMirror has for 580.0.0.49.91 are supported, including the 14 made for a single screen density, so "version code ... is not supported" shouldn't come up for any of them.
- When a switch's code fails inside Messenger, its line now says Stopped with an error, and Copy setup lists the failure without the error's text.
- The settings screen can be translated. None ship yet. The README says how to add a language.
Changed and fixed
- Hide Meta AI removes the Meta AI tab some accounts get in the bottom bar (#13). It changes after Restart Messenger.
- Hide People You May Know now covers the People tab and search too, and the story viewer no longer slips in a page of suggested people.
- Hide growth prompts also hides the notes tip sheets, like Make my notes public, and the Share your own story card at the end of someone else's stories.
- Settings open on Morphe Manager's Root Mount installs (#12). There's no drawer icon on a mount install, so use the long-press shortcut or the HushMessenger row in the Menu tab.
- Hide Facebook shortcuts now says that it removes the "Also from Meta" section in the Menu tab (#14). It already did.
- The update check compares version numbers as numbers, so a future 0.10.0 won't look older than 0.9.0.
check_install.pyfinds Messenger data left behind by an uninstall that kept the data, which caused "INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE ... 2147483647" in #9.- The build moved to Kotlin Gradle plugin 2.4.20 (CVE-2026-53914) and Bouncy Castle 1.86.
Updating
Refresh the HushMessenger source in Morphe, patch Messenger again with the same key and install it over your current copy. Then use Restart Messenger. New switches start off.
Checking the download
This is the first release with SHA256SUMS.txt.sig, an SSH signature over the checksum file, made with the release key whose fingerprint is SHA256:Z+UfHy7IUbtgNRO/wHkIr68+u4I+SIKPY9avfx/VAPU. Morphe Manager and Desktop don't check it, so the README shows how to do it yourself with ssh-keygen and scripts/release_signers.
Before release, Morphe Desktop 1.18.0 applied all 31 patches to five of the builds, one from each group that shares the same internal names, and every patched APK passed Android's signature check. Two clean builds of the bundle, one of them from a fresh checkout, came out byte for byte the same.
The full list is in the changelog.
