@SysAdminDoc SysAdminDoc released this 13 Oct 02:44

HushPinterest 0.0.8 has 29 patches for Pinterest 14.39.0. It's built on Morphe patcher 1.15.1, so it needs Morphe Manager 1.34.0 or newer. Long-press the Pinterest logo at the top of your home feed and HushPinterest settings open right over it. Two new patches came along too, AMOLED black and Hide closeup buttons, plus redesigned settings and a long list of download fixes.

It's the same Pinterest version as 0.0.7. Patch 14.39.0 again and install it over your current HushPinterest with the same signing key, and your settings stay as they are.

What's new

  • Long-press the Pinterest logo at the top of your home feed to open HushPinterest settings. It works even while HushPinterest is paused. The app icon shortcut and Android's App info page still open them too.
  • Share file in Download history shows a frame of a saved video in Android's share sheet on Android 11 and later, where it used to show a plain file icon. The app you share to still gets the video itself with its name. Images already had a preview and work as before.
  • Disable update nag checks that the spot it guards still comes before Pinterest's call to the Play Store update prompt. A future Pinterest build that asks Play Store first now stops patching with a clear message, rather than getting a guard that would run too late to stop the pop-up.
  • New patch, AMOLED black. Its Black bottom bar switch paints the bottom bar pure black in dark mode, so it no longer sits as a gray strip under Pinterest's black pages. It works whether Pinterest shows the bar as one rounded piece or each tab as its own rounded button, and the strip behind the gesture handle turns black with it. Menus and buttons that share the bar's gray keep it, and light mode stays as it is. It starts off and lives on the Interface page.
  • New patch, Hide closeup buttons. Two switches hide the back arrow and the visual search (lens) button that float over a pin you open, so they stop covering the picture. Your phone's back gesture still leaves the pin, and Search image in the pin menu still works. Other icon buttons in the app aren't touched. Both start off and live on the Interface page.
  • Media details has Check the file for image pins. One tap reads the first 64 KB of the file a download would save and shows its real width, height, type and file size, since Pinterest's numbers can describe a smaller display copy. Nothing is fetched until you tap it, and every value says whether Pinterest supplied it or the file showed it. When the media host is too busy or slow to say whether it has the original, the result isn't kept, so the next tap asks again. Reading the file gives up after 15 seconds, even when the host never answers.
  • Download visible pins has All, Images and Videos filters with counts above the list, so they and the buttons stay on screen however many pins you can pick from, and each row shows the picture its cell already has, so pins are easier to tell apart. Nothing extra is downloaded for those pictures. Download board now asks whether to queue all of a board's loaded pins, only the images or only the videos.
  • Save list, in Download visible pins and Download board, writes the pins you chose to a JSON file you pick. Each pin has its Pinterest link, its title and the source link Pinterest supplied. A source link with a query, a fragment, a sign-in part or a private or reserved host name is marked as omitted instead of being cut down. Your account and cookies never go in the file. Save list works on a board even when every loaded pin is already in Download history, and when a list can't be written, the empty file the picker made is removed again. A file you picked to write over is never removed.
  • Dialogs that only show something now close with Close, and ones that leave a choice untaken say Cancel. Save in Download again is now Use Download again, and the pin menu's Media details lines read Width, Height and Size. Card edges stand out more against the dark background, the overview card's color follows a right-to-left language, and a finished batch no longer repeats its whole summary in a toast while its dialog still shows it.
  • A review of all five translations fixed 87 lines. Turkish now talks to you the same informal way everywhere, puts the right ending on HushPinterest, and shows an import change as old → new where it used to say "instead of". German no longer runs the Download pins and Download board names together. Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese stick to one word for switches, Portuguese calls boards "pastas" everywhere like Pinterest does, and Indonesian points to the Downloads folder by its Indonesian name.
  • At large text sizes, when a dialog's buttons stack, all of them show now. Download visible pins used to show Queue selected and a sliver of Cancel, with Save list hidden until you scrolled the buttons. The list or message above scrolls instead, and the buttons never take more than half the screen.
  • Toasts from a pin batch and Save list fit in the two lines Android 12 and later show. A batch whose dialog has closed gives its counts in one short sentence, and a note about pins already in Download history or a file left behind comes up as its own toast.
  • Every other HushPinterest toast now fits in those two lines too, in English and in German, Spanish, Indonesian, Portuguese and Turkish. Over 40 of them used to stop partway with "...", mostly around settings import and export, download retries and the file and folder pickers. They say the same thing in fewer words. When no app can open a link, the toast now just names the address, so more of it shows.
  • The Notifications page shows whether Android lets Pinterest show notifications, and one tap opens Android's notification settings for the patched app. It never changes a permission for you.
  • The update check gives up after 20 seconds even when GitHub answers slowly or a connection stalls, and Check now can be tapped again right away.
  • With Debug logging on, a feed module's line now names each entry that isn't a pin by its type, never its content, so a report shows everything the module carried.
  • Download pins has two new switches, both off to start. One waits for an unmetered network and the other holds downloads while roaming. They cover single pins, visible pins, boards and retries, and changing them never cancels a download that's already queued. A download held back for its network shows as Queued in Download history, not as a failure, and starts by itself once an allowed network is back. Wi-Fi marked as metered doesn't count as unmetered.
  • A finished download can be opened or shared straight from its Download history row. History asks Android first, so a deleted file or a download removed from history won't open anything stale. Set as wallpaper makes the same check now. The other app gets the file under its own name, like Pinterest_123_456.mp4, where it used to see every download as "Download pin".
  • Download board keeps far less in memory while boards are loaded. Each pin is kept as its id and the media found for it instead of the whole pin. A Download history too long to read keeps its newest entries instead of starting over empty.
  • Strip link tracking and Plain pin links no longer swallow text that sits right after a link with no space, like a Japanese caption after ?utm_source=x. A hashtag or date in that text stays text, and a second link glued on after it is cleaned on its own. A link written into another link's query, like a share text with &utm_source= after it, stays part of that link so its tags still come off. A link longer than 4,096 characters is left as it is, so a huge pasted text can't hold up a share. Links with non-ASCII paths or queries stay whole.
  • The quick checks Plain pin links makes against pin.it short links, and Download pins against Pinterest's image host, go out without any cookies the app holds for those hosts. A cookie Pinterest's short-link service sets on its answer is dropped again, so it can't stop the next lookup, and cookies Pinterest itself stores meanwhile are left alone.
  • Hide shopping and product pins also hides the Shop the look section under a pin, the row of products picked to match the photo. The pin's own Visit button and its Paid link label stay.
  • The setup guide's sign-in section now agrees with the rest of the settings. It says Google sign-in doesn't work with stock Google Play services (the Spoof signature patch is for phones with microG-RE or XSpoofSignatures), and that the Fix push notifications patch, on by default, signs the app up for push notifications, instead of calling push untested.
  • Settings search no longer lists every row without a summary when you type "null".
  • The diagnostic report counts a promoted pin as removed only once the whole feed list has gone through. When Pinterest's list couldn't be read all the way, the page shows as it was, but the report still said an ad had been removed.
  • Screen reader and keyboard fixes in settings. The search field is read by its hint and what you typed, Clear search hands focus back to the field, the result of a tapped Check now is spoken when it lands (the daily check settings runs on its own stays quiet), and the Back and Clear buttons show where keyboard focus is. Choices that act at once, like Copy quick report, Remove from history and Save in Download again, no longer carry the chevron that means a tap opens something.
  • The long-press shortcut's icon is drawn from the settings colors, so its blue matches the icon badges on the settings pages.
  • A download folder with # or % in its name, such as Pictures/Art #2, now gets the download. Android's download service reads the folder back from text, where # ended the path and % started an escape, so the file landed in the wrong place or nowhere.
  • Open links in your browser no longer keeps a link inside Pinterest just because its address starts with "pinterest." A site named pinterest.example.com isn't Pinterest's, so it opens in your browser like any other link.
  • Selecting many pins to download no longer shows a "Couldn't start the download" pop-up for each one that fails. The batch counts them and says so once in its summary. A pin downloaded on its own still gets the message.
  • The diagnostic report also leaves out a Pinterest address whose slashes are written the JSON way (/, or \/ when the string was written into JSON twice) or encoded (%2F, or %252F when a query value was encoded twice), path and all.
  • Clearer wording in settings. Hide AI-labeled pins names the places it filters instead of "the same places", Open links in your browser says it opens a pin's Visit link and profile websites, Strip link tracking mentions Plain pin links only when that switch exists, the Check now row names the switch it works around, download messages say "the Download folder" for the folder and "Downloads" for the app, the batch summary reads "Couldn't save history for one result" with a real singular, "in parentheses" replaces "in brackets", and Autoplay's note says cellular data like its title. The five translations follow.
  • The 14.39.0 audit page records 0.0.7 and drops two work items that were done. The README and the patch descriptions Morphe Manager shows now both say Download board stops at 500 pins, Hide advertising ID works like deleting your advertising ID, and Advertiser-sponsored polls stay hidden. The README also names the Search switch under Hide navigation buttons.
  • The diagnostic report's pin menu counts now say they were taken when the menu was built, before Pinterest decided what to show, so a row counted as visible isn't read as one that was on screen.
  • Redesigned HushPinterest settings with separate navy cards on black pages and blue icon badges. Pause sits below its status summary. Setup topics have their own cards, and dialog choices wrap. The existing Android controls and actions keep their behavior.
  • Pinterest's own Download image row is hidden when Download pin saves that pin's image, so the two don't sit side by side in a pin's menu. It stays for video pins, since Download pin saves the video there and not a still image, and for pins HushPinterest can't download. With Download pins off the menu is untouched. (#2)
  • When one item on a feed page can't be read, Hide ads, Hide AI-labeled pins and Hide shopping keep just that item and still filter everything else on the page. Before, that one item let the whole page through unfiltered.
  • Tapping Download pin twice while the menu closes saves the pin once.
  • A tap beside the progress dialog of Download visible pins or Download board doesn't stop the batch anymore. Back and Stop selection still do. A batch that runs into an unexpected error now ends, where it used to leave every later selection refused as still running until Pinterest restarted.
  • Copy media link doesn't keep the pin screen in memory while it looks for the original.
  • System share sheet reads its switch inside its own error handling, so a settings failure leaves Pinterest's share picker in place instead of reaching Pinterest's code.

Behind the scenes

  • The script tests stopped failing now and then under Windows PowerShell when two device builds run at once. Both builds logged to the same stand-in build queue file, which Windows PowerShell can't append to from two processes at the same moment. That test now also reports the exact line where a build failed.
  • Picking a release back up after something went wrong got easier. The build stage takes the signed files back from GitHub when the release is already up there and the local copies are gone, instead of stopping. The gate stage notices a gate that passed right before the network dropped. A failed publication puts the old GitHub description back, and a repair note under a fresh Unreleased heading no longer reads as an edit to released notes. Pushes also keep going in Windows PowerShell when a release's output goes to a log file.
  • The build moved to Kotlin 2.4.21, Commons Lang 3.21.0 and androidx.annotation 1.11.0, with their hashes added to the dependency verification file. The advisory check finds nothing in the 286 libraries the build resolves.
  • A feed filter test covers a module that also carries search filter chips, which Pinterest 14.39.0 keeps in a list next to the module's pins. The ads reference explains why only the pin list can leave a module empty.
  • The source census reads Jman's index at its new name and layout, and the Morphe Patch Tracker's list again now that two of its keys differ only in case. Its contract suite passes under Windows PowerShell 5.1 too.
  • A fixture test checks that every pin field Hide ads, Hide AI-labeled pins and Hide shopping read is still in Pinterest's build with a type the filters can use. A renamed or retyped field now fails the tests instead of quietly switching a filter off.
  • The fixture tests read Pinterest's manifests and resource tables with the same ARSCLib build the patcher uses, instead of a second copy whose classes could win or lose depending on classpath order. A check stops the tests if a patcher update moves it.
  • An interrupted release can resume after a commit repairs its publication checks. It keeps the prepared source, published tag, signed assets and index unchanged, including the original test counts when local results are missing or come from a focused run. It pushes only when needed and checks the index Morphe Manager receives. Changed release files or unrelated source commits stop recovery. Refs #3
  • The script contract tests keep the published bug report form as it is when they build a tree whose index lags the source, the way the release check expects, and now also check that a form moved to the catalog's newer Pinterest build is refused there. They used to move the form's build along with the catalog, which went unnoticed until the published form named the catalog's newest build and held up the 0.0.7 index push.
  • The published index check finds git when the pre-push hook's PATH lists more than one copy of it. Inside the hook it used to get all three paths as one name and stop the release gate.
  • The published index check also runs on a release's prepare commit. Its copy of the index, README's latest release sentence and the bug form now move to the version being prepared, the way publishing moves them, instead of failing on the old one.

Reported issues

The reports this release changes something for.

  • #2, Hush downloads not working (@Stark-0505). A pin's menu no longer shows two download rows. Pinterest's own Download image hides whenever Download pin saves that pin's image, and a video pin shows Download pin alone. The issue stays open until it's confirmed on your phone.
  • #5, save downloads to a folder you choose (@boox3). A folder with # or % in its name, like Pictures/Art #2, now gets the download too.
  • #6, not all adverts are hidden (@darenrue). Hide shopping and product pins also hides the Shop the look row under a pin you open, and when one item on a feed page can't be read, Hide ads still filters the rest of that page. Still open until it's confirmed on your phone.

Install

  1. Install Morphe Manager 1.34.0 or newer.
  2. Add HushPinterest as a patch source: https://morphe.software/add-source?github=SysAdminDoc%2FHushPinterest
  3. Download Pinterest 14.39.0, version code 14398020, as the universal APK, and patch it. It needs Android 10 or newer.
  4. Uninstall the stock Pinterest first, since Android won't put one over the other. Save anything you keep only on the phone before you do. Your boards and pins come back when you sign in.
  5. Sign in with your email and a Pinterest password. If you joined through Google or Facebook, tap Forgot your password? on Pinterest's login page to set one first.
  6. Right after your first patch, export Morphe Manager's signing key (Settings, then System, then Import & export, then Signing key) and keep it somewhere private. Updates only install over a Pinterest signed with that same key.

Already on HushPinterest? Skip steps 4 and 5. Patch 14.39.0 with the same key and install it over the one you have.

Validation

All 212 patch tests and 858 extension tests passed on this commit, none skipped. The bundle attached here was patched onto a real Pinterest 14.39.0 APK with Morphe's desktop patcher, and all 29 patches applied without forcing. release-receipt-0.0.8.json records that result, the APK's hash and what patching changed in the app's manifest. The logo long press, the single download row in a pin's menu and the video frame in Android's share sheet were also checked on a phone or an emulator running these patches.
