PiP, an assistant over every screen that runs your other sessions for you; GitHub pull request and repository watches, and webhooks; memory that carries lessons across sessions; and dictation. (#46)

  • PiP, "Pi in Pocket". Alt+A, the rail's orb, or /pip opens it over whatever you are doing. PiP lists, reads, starts (in a worktree too), messages, stops, and archives your sessions, and schedules messages in them. It follows their runs and tells you in a line what came of them, as a notification when you are away. It reads files but changes none and runs no commands, handing hands-on work to sessions. What sessions, guests, and GitHub write reaches it as data, never as instructions. It is the owner's alone. Thanks, @dinhtungdu, for asking for a coordinator like this. (#22)
  • PiP keeps its context small.
    • The panel shows how full its context is.
    • Compact in the panel, or /compact typed to PiP, turns older messages into a short summary.
    • PiP compacts itself once idle above 60k tokens. You can pick 40k, 60k, 100k, or "as sessions do" in Extensions under PiP.
    • Its summary is its own: written with what sessions, webhooks, and GitHub said left out, so none of their words come back as PiP's notes.
  • Watches and webhooks (the Triggers extension):
    • Watch a pull request (/watch, or Pi's watch_pr): until it merges, failed checks with their logs, conflicts, and reviewers' comments reach Pi.
    • Watch a repository by telling PiP, for example "watch acme/api: when CI fails on main, fix it and tell me". New issues, pull requests, CI failures, releases, and @pi mentions come to PiP with your instructions.
    • Webhooks bring other services' posts to a session or to PiP. GitHub's are signed.
    • Only repositories gh can push to are watched. Only the owner, and members and collaborators whom GitHub says can write, count, unless you turn on From anyone.
  • Memory. Short lessons Pi keeps across sessions, for a project or everywhere. Pi proposes them, and the owner approves exactly the words they saw, right under Pi's call or in Menu → Memory. Lessons you add there yourself count at once.
  • Dictation. A mic in the message box and in PiP's (Alt+V) uses the browser's own speech recognition: Chrome sends the audio to Google's servers for it, and Safari works too. It needs a secure page (HTTPS or localhost), and never sends by itself.
  • Keyboard navigation in the session list. Tab shows a row's Archive and Pin, focus outlines stay inside rows and group headers, and closed groups are skipped. Thanks, @lucas-neuhauss, for the fix. (#45)
  • Fixes:
    • After a compaction, the status line no longer shows the context from before it: it shows an estimate, marked ~, until the next answer.

To update an existing install:

git pull

Then restart Pi Pocket (Menu → Restart server): this release changes the server. No npm install needed.

PiP's older summaries, from before this release, may hold text that sessions or GitHub wrote. Start fresh in PiP's panel clears them.
