Model Picker 0.3.0

Model and effort suggestions for Codex and Claude Code, powered by TypeSafe's JEV. You make every switch; the plugin never changes a setting.

New in 0.3.0

  • The first check of a thread can suggest a smaller model. Start a short summary on Opus 5.5 or Astra, and the reply opens with a lighter pick and the line "This task looks lighter than your current setting." Later checks only suggest upgrades as the task grows. (#8)
  • A lighter suggestion does not start the 15-minute cooldown, so an upgrade soon after still shows.
  • New config key suggest_lower (default true). Set it to false to keep every automatic alert an upgrade.

Since 0.1.0

  • Claude Code support (0.2.0): Haiku 4.5, Sonnet 5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1, with /model and /effort hints. Opus 5.5 long-context sessions (claude-opus-5-5[1m]) are recognized. (#4)
  • A logo, shorter README with diagrams, CI on Python 3.9 to 3.14, and a PR gate.

Install or update

# Codex
codex plugin marketplace add Tatendaz/model-picker
codex plugin add codex-model-advisor@model-picker

# Claude Code (2.1.257 or later), inside a session
/plugin marketplace add Tatendaz/model-picker
/plugin install claude-model-advisor@model-picker

Already installed? Run /plugin update claude-model-advisor@model-picker in Claude Code or codex plugin update codex-model-advisor@model-picker in Codex. If your marketplace was added from the old feat/claude-code-support branch, remove it and add Tatendaz/model-picker again; that branch is gone.

You need a TypeSafe API key, billed separately. In Codex, trust the hook in /hooks. See the README.

@Tatendaz Tatendaz released this 20 Sep 16:14

Model Picker 0.1.0

A Codex plugin that uses TypeSafe JEV to recommend a model and reasoning effort as task scope grows.

  • Highlighted recommendations in Codex desktop and CLI.
  • Periodic and scope-triggered reassessment, cooldowns, duplicate suppression and session mute.
  • Manual rechecks with model advisor recheck.
  • Bounded prompt excerpts and private local state; credentials remain outside the repository.
  • MIT licensed, with a dependency-free Python test suite.

Model changes remain manual. The documented hook interface does not expose a model/effort override. Voice handoff parsing is tested, but live voice delivery remains unverified.

Install

codex plugin marketplace add Tatendaz/model-picker
codex plugin add codex-model-advisor@model-picker

Follow the README to configure your TypeSafe API key and review/trust the hook before use. If you have an older personal copy, disable it first to avoid duplicate checks.
