The NES games in your house work now, town runs a lot smoother, and the whole thing feels more like part of the game.

Dia2809 is now officially a maintainer. Dia's fork is where this project started, so it's great to have them on board for real.

What's new

  • NES games work. Play the NES furniture in your house, keep your high scores, and hold L1 + R1 + R2 to go back to your room. You can also put your own .nes files in ports/ac-gc/nes_roms/ and play them on the plain NES item.
  • Better FPS in town. The game was updating and drawing every character and object nearby, even ones off screen. It doesn't anymore, and town now sits close to 60 fps.
  • Endless acres. The camera follows you smoothly from acre to acre instead of stopping at every edge. On by default.
  • A new Options page that looks like it belongs in the game. Open it from the title screen, or press Select while playing.
  • A new loading screen, and an Exit to OS option on the title screen.
  • Bells to wallet. Bell bags you pick up go straight into your wallet. On by default.
  • The D-pad now works in menus and speeds up text.

Fixes

  • Diary furniture and a few other items showed the wrong colors, like hot pink.
  • Nook sometimes didn't show up, which could softlock the game.
  • No more black screen at the mailbox after visiting another town, and no more missing sounds after a train ride.
  • Quitting without saving right after a trip no longer throws the trip away.
  • Fixes for the weather after a restart, the island house door, the radio, and a batch of smaller crashes from the decomp.
  • No more freezes of a few seconds with logging turned on, and less wasted work every frame.
  • Patched or translated discs now show their own menu labels.
  • If the game crashes, it writes crash.log next to log.txt. Please attach both when you report a bug.

Thanks

  • Dia2809 for the villager house crash fix and a lot of help behind the scenes.
  • FlyingMeta, whose PC port gave us NES support, endless acres and most of the game fixes above.
  • oprel for bells to wallet and D-pad navigation.
  • Lennart Hennigs for the translated menu labels.
  • jbW0P68c3G8H for audio detection on muOS and MinUI.
  • FIX94 for fixNES, the NES emulator behind all this.

Upgrading
Back up ports/ac-gc/save, then copy the new files over the old ones. Your settings carry over.
