Bannerlator 2.3

Run Windows apps and games on Android — no PC and no root required.

2.3 is the storefronts release. Bannerlator now has a full built-in Steam store — sign in with your account (username/password or QR code), browse your owned library, and download and install your games straight to a container via a native depot engine. Alongside Steam it adds Epic Games and Amazon Games stores and wires the existing GOG store into a new cross-store Download Manager — one place to see every active download and your whole installed library across all four stores, launch, and uninstall, with background downloads that keep going (and show up in your notification shade) after you leave the app. For offline / emulated play there's an optional Goldberg auto-patch for Steam games, and this release also hardens store logs so your account credentials and tokens are scrubbed from anything you might share. This is an entirely app-side update — no ImageFS reinstall — your existing containers, themes and settings carry over untouched; it's a straight in-place APK update.

✨ What's New

🎮 Built-in Steam store — new

Sign in to Steam right inside Bannerlator and play from your own library.

  • Sign in your way — username + password or QR code (scan it with the Steam mobile app). Your session is remembered between launches.
  • Browse your owned library and open a game's detail page with cover art and store metadata.
  • Download + install games through the built-in depot engine (built on JavaSteam), straight into a Wine container ready to launch.
  • GameNative-style download speed — 4 tiers. Pick Slow / Medium / Fast / Blazing; the tier scales concurrency by CPU cores × a ratio, so you can trade heat/battery for throughput.
  • Session hardening. Long installs used to die around the ~1-hour mark when Steam's connection manager logged the session off. Bannerlator now detects the logoff and recovers — reconnect, re-login, hold a wakelock and keep the session alive — so big downloads survive to the end.
  • Connection / login status pill in the store header tells you at a glance whether you're connected and signed in.
  • Depot-download OOM fix — decompress and file-write concurrency are capped so large games no longer run the app out of memory mid-download.
  • Optional per-download "Log debug session" toggle for diagnostics (off by default).

🕹️ Goldberg auto-patch — new

On a Steam game's detail page you can apply a Goldberg / gbe_fork patch for offline / emulated play, in three tiers — Regular, Experimental and ColdClient — installed for you automatically (and cleanly reverted when you switch back to Off).

⚠️ Use at your own risk. The Steam Emulator patch modifies a game's shipped files to run it offline/emulated. It's provided as-is for games you own; use it at your own discretion.

⬇️ Cross-store Download Manager — new

One unified ⬇ Download Manager across all four stores.

  • Everything in one place — active downloads and your installed library from Steam, Epic, GOG and Amazon, side by side.
  • Live two-bar progress — a distinct download bar and install bar with byte-accurate size and percentage.
  • Background downloads + shade notifications — a foreground service keeps downloads running when you leave the app, with a live notification you can tap to jump back into the manager. Leave the app, come back, it's still going.
  • Launch or uninstall any installed game from the manager, with a verified uninstall (progress spinner + themed result bar).
  • One source of truth for install state — a game's installed / update-available status, cover art and metadata now stay in sync across its detail page, its download card and the store list.
  • New "Default screen on launch" setting so the app opens where you want it.

🛍️ Epic, GOG & Amazon stores

  • Amazon Games and Epic Games stores added — sign in, browse your owned library, and download / install / launch your games (including Epic's free games).
  • The existing GOG store is now wired into the Download Manager and behaves like the rest.
  • All store pages restyled to Material 3 — every non-Steam store now matches the app theme and the Steam store's layout, with live download % on detail pages, cover art, launch fixes, a themed container picker, and themed toasts (fixing an unreadable black-box toast some ROMs showed).

🔒 Security & your accounts — please read

Bannerlator's Steam / Epic / GOG / Amazon sign-ins are a third-party login system, exactly like any other emulator or launcher that logs into these stores. Bannerlator is not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by Valve/Steam, Epic Games, GOG, or Amazon. You are logging your real store account into a community app — use it at your own risk.

This release actively redacts your credentials and account identifiers from logs. A new StoreLog.redactUrl helper strips the sensitive parts out of everything the stores write — to logcat and to the shareable diagnostic files — including:

  • signed download / manifest URLs (Amazon, Epic, GOG CDN links carry access tokens in the query),
  • OAuth authorization codes in login redirects,
  • GOG client_secret + refresh_token,
  • and account identity IDs (Epic account ID, GOG user ID). Steam credentials were already redacted.

Even so, be careful about sharing any log or debug file publicly — logs can still contain other diagnostic detail, so only share one if you're comfortable doing so. None of this changes how login, downloads or cloud saves actually work; it only changes what gets written to a log.

🔓 Steam QR sign-in re-enabled

QR sign-in was temporarily greyed out while the ~1-hour session-drop issue was investigated. With the new logoff-recovery path in place, QR login is back on — a QR session now stores the same credentials as a password login and recovers the same way. An on-screen note advises: if downloads or the session keep dropping after a QR sign-in, sign out and use username + password (the more durable path).

Previously in 2.2.2 — the in-game ReShade release (already in your build if you're on 2.2.2)
  • 🎬 In-game ReShade effects — run real ReShade .fx post-processing (colour grading, sharpen, film grain, CRT, tonemap, LUTs…) on DXVK / VKD3D games, compiled on-device via the bundled vkBasalt layer. Configured per game, tuned live in a dedicated in-game ReShade tab with auto-generated typed controls, and run solo or stacked. An on-demand catalog of ~100 curated MIT/CC0 effects, or drop your own into the ReShade/ folder.
  • ♻️ Existing containers auto-updated their ReShade (vkBasalt) layer on next launch — no reinstall needed.
  • 🛟 In-game drawer rail now scrolls so Exit is always reachable on short screens.
  • 🎛️ FPS limiter now sticks between sessions for shortcut-launched games.
  • 🎨 Fixes — white on-screen controls stay white, very light / dark custom accents stay readable, and container creation can no longer get stuck on a stale shortcut.

ℹ️ Updating in-app? This release is entirely app-side — the standard APK update covers everything in 2.3. There's no ImageFS reinstall required: your existing containers, themes, custom accent, per-game settings and control colours all carry over untouched.

🙏

2.3's storefronts are built on the work of others. The Steam store's connection client and its entire depot-download engine come from JavaSteam (maintainer Longi94, with the javasteam-depotdownloader fork by joshuatam). The optional Steam emulator patch is Goldberg Steam Emu (Mr_Goldberg) and gbe_fork (Detanup01). The 4-tier download-speed model and the Steam session-hardening patterns were ported/adapted from GameNative (utkarshdalal), with Steam-client patterns also referenced from Pluvia.

Built on that foundation, the original engineering in 2.3 — the cross-store Download Manager, the four storefront integrations, the multi-week Steam session-hardening work, the depot OOM fix, the Goldberg auto-patch integration, the store Material-3 restyle, and the store-log credential redaction — is by The412Banner. Full lineage and credits are in the README.

And thanks to everyone in the Discord and on GitHub who tested the store downloads, Goldberg tiers and session-recovery work and reported issues — your reports drove this release.
