Release list
Wattson 2.7
- No more crash a few seconds after opening the panel on macOS 15 and 26. Wattson released a string it only borrowed from the system each time it read CPU speeds, so the panel crashed soon after opening. macOS 27 never frees those strings, which is why it only crashed on older systems. (#1, #2)
- A battery held at its charge limit no longer flips between "holding" and "draining". On a charger the battery's flow was worked out from two readings that update one second apart, so it swung by watts every second. It now comes from the battery's own terminals, which read a steady 0 A at the limit.
- The menu bar can show just the wattage. Turn off "Show the icon beside the reading" in Menu Bar settings. It stays on unless you change it.
- The menu bar item no longer changes width as the reading goes from 9.8 W to 10.2 W or a sign comes and goes, so the items beside it stay put.
Install
brew install --cask TheFilipcom4607/tap/wattsonor download Wattson-2.7.dmg below and drag Wattson to Applications.
Needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 13 or later.
Wattson 2.6
- Wattson now tells you when the cable is what's capping your charge. The charger's card says "This cable is capping power at 60 W" only when that can be proven. The cable's own chip has to state 3 A, or the same Apple charger (matched by serial) has to have offered more before. The Mac also has to be drawing the full 60 W and able to take more. A plain charging cable usually has no chip to ask, and a charger hides its real rating behind such a cable. In that case Wattson says nothing rather than guess.
- A charger's wattage is now called what it is: an offer, not a rating. Through a cable it can't confirm for 5 A, a 100 W charger offers only 60 W, and Wattson used to call that a "60 W rated" charger. The card now says "offering 60 W".
--dumpsays "60 W offered", and the menu bar option is "Charger offer". - No more "up to 0 A" offers. A leftover PPS entry with no current in it no longer appears under "Also offers".
Install
brew install --cask TheFilipcom4607/tap/wattsonor download Wattson-2.6.dmg below and drag Wattson to Applications.
Needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 13 or later.
Wattson 2.5
- See everything your charger offers, not just its fixed voltages. Expand the charger's card and an "Also offers" row now lists PPS and AVS ranges, e.g. "PPS 5–21 V up to 4.75 A". These are decoded from the raw USB PD source capabilities. Wattson shows the list only when it provably belongs to the charger plugged in now, because macOS keeps old chargers' offers around after they're unplugged.
--dumpprints the same lines, and--jsonhas the full list aspdSourceCapabilities.
Install
brew install --cask TheFilipcom4607/tap/wattsonor download Wattson-2.5.dmg below and drag Wattson to Applications.
Needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 13 or later.
Wattson 2.4
- The panel stays under its menu bar item on a short screen. With an external display attached, expanding a port with a hub behind it on a 13"/14" built-in screen could make the panel taller than the screen, and macOS moved it beside the item, header hidden under the menu bar. It is now capped to the screen the item is on, and the device list scrolls.
- The end of a long list is no longer lost in the fade. The last row now scrolls fully clear of it.
- Device details are easier to read. The type · speed · vendor line under each device, and the third line on each port card, are one shade stronger.
Install
brew install --cask TheFilipcom4607/tap/wattsonor download Wattson-2.4.dmg below and drag Wattson to Applications.

Wattson 2.3
First signed release. Wattson is now signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens on a double-click with no Gatekeeper workaround.
Install
brew install --cask TheFilipcom4607/tap/wattsonor download Wattson-2.3.dmg below and drag Wattson to Applications.
Needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 13 or later.
If you were running a build from source, macOS sees this as a new signature: turn Launch at login back on in Settings, and allow notifications again if you use them.
