RimStack beta (faf1a9f)

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Oct 12:47

Changes since 1.0.1

  • macOS: with RimWorld 1.7, the load order is saved where the game reads it, in Application Support/Ludeon Studios/RimWorld, rather than in the folder left over from 1.6 (#17).
  • Linux: the AppImage starts on Wayland sessions that do not bring Qt's Wayland support with them, such as Hyprland (#4).
  • Mods made for another game version are marked the same way in both lists: a tint with an edge line, and a tag with the newest version they list. A warning that is only about the version no longer counts as a problem on the row.
  • The first-run hints can be clicked again.
  • Built with Rust 2024; nothing changes in use.

The programs are not signed yet, so Windows and macOS warn the first time. The files are fine; this gets past it once.

Windows: SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway. For the zip, right-click it, choose Properties, tick Unblock, then extract. If Smart App Control is on (Windows 11), it blocks unsigned programs with no way past it except turning Smart App Control off.
macOS: drag RimStack to Applications and open it once. Then open System Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down and choose Open Anyway next to RimStack. If macOS says the app is damaged, run this in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/RimStack.app
Linux: make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) and run it.

The first stable RimStack: a free, native RimWorld mod manager that sorts by reading what is inside your mods.

Download the file for your system below: the Windows installer (-setup.exe) or zip, the macOS dmg (Apple silicon), or the Linux AppImage. RimStack finds RimWorld through Steam, and asks for the folder if it can't.

What it does

  • Up in 0.2 seconds. Your mod list is on screen in 0.2 s on an install of 1,853 mods.
  • Sorts by what is inside. Your rules, community rules, each mod's own About.xml, and hints read from the mods' compiled code and XML patches. Sort shows every move with its reason, and nothing changes until you choose Apply.
  • Live, always. Steam downloads and updates, folders changed by hand, new saves, the game's log and every setting show up by themselves. Nothing needs refreshing.
  • Nothing reaches the game before Save. Save writes only ModsConfig.xml, after copying the old one beside it. Anything else that writes happens only when you ask, and is recorded so it can be undone.
  • Explains problems with the fix next to each, texture conflicts side by side, PNG to DDS built in, Find the broken mod, the game's errors grouped by mod, Saves compared with your list, Downloads from Workshop, collection and Git links, and seven languages.

Every panel is explained, with pictures, in the guide.

Since the last beta

  • Downloads: the Updates, Missing and SteamCMD cards share one layout, with their state on the title line.
  • Mods: one warnings count with arrows beside it, instead of the same number four times.
  • Logs: the mod an error points at is shown in neutral, so orange only means a warning.
  • Settings: community database toggles stay dimmed until the download exists, and Set aside is marked as destructive.
  • Play: its badge counts what is in the way, not only a colour.
  • Theme, contrast, motion, row size and font are checked to apply without a restart.

If RimStack saves you time, you can sponsor its development. Problems and ideas go to Issues.
