onitama.tv/mucom88 — ONION software
The one you actually need. Runs standalone with nothing else installed, and it is where the FM tone editor and the PCM bank builder live. For MUCOMSX users this is primarily an asset workshop: design voices, build banks, audition an idea in seconds rather than waiting on a compile-and-transfer cycle.
The upstream project. Its wiki is the canonical reference for MUCOM88 itself, including pages on voice data and the tone editor, ADPCM data and the MML reference.
When this wiki and the upstream wiki disagree about a limit, assume the upstream describes MUCOM88 and this one describes MUCOMSX — and check the MUCOMSX manual to settle it.
ancient.co.jp/~mucom88 — Copyright Yuzo Koshiro 2018
MUCOM88's home, with the PC-8801 disk images, ALPHA-DOS, VoiceEditor and SDK.
github.com/DM-88/FM-SoundConvertor
Converts FM voices between MUCOM88, FMP, PMD and VOPM formats. Worth knowing about early: decades of PC-88 and PC-98 voice libraries exist in those other formats, and this is the door to them. A voice you like from a PMD song can become a MUCOM88 voice, and from there an inline @n:{...} block in your .MUC.
Check the licence and the wishes of whoever made the original voices before redistributing anything.
MDPlayer · mucomMD2vgm — kumatan
A player that understands MUCOM88 .muc files, and a converter to VGM. Useful for checking a song on a PC without going through the MSX at all.
aosoft.github.io/MucomWeb.Play — aosoft
MUCOM88 in a browser. The fastest possible way to try an MML idea, with nothing to install.
A small tool by Yukinyan for entering OPNA rhythm parts, listed on the upstream related tools page.
Worth a look if you are curious how far the driver has travelled:
- MUCOM88mdz — Mega Drive / Genesis, via SGDK
- MUCOM88 Extended Memory — a derivative with expanded memory
- Hidemaru editor macro — MML editing support in Hidemaru
MUCOMSX is the MSX branch of that same family, targeting the YM2608 on the MAKOTO cartridge.
| MAKOTO | The YM2608 cartridge MUCOMSX targets. Required for playback; not required to compile |
| Neotron-B | YM2610B cartridge. A separate MUCOMSX build is in preparation — do not mix it with the MAKOTO build |
| MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD, Carnivore2 | Storage plus a 512 KB-class mapper, the configuration MUCOMSX is tested against |
| openMSX | Emulator used for the project's own regression testing |
If you publish songs made with these tools, remember that a .MUB can carry someone else's voice library and someone else's samples inside it. Check what you are allowed to redistribute — particularly for voices lifted from commercial games and for sampled audio.
