CRT-Screen-Off-Animation v1.2.0
What's New in v1.2.0
Triple-Engine Architecture & Classic Cathode Tribute
- New Engine: Mode 1 - Classic Cathode: A faithful tribute to early Android’s iconic 2D
ElectronBeamscreen-off animation. Features an authentic uniform collapse, razor-sharp letterbox borders, a bright phosphor flash, and a lightning-fast central snap with zero shader overhead. - Streamlined Engine Suite: Seamlessly toggle between three distinct physical interpretations:
- Classic Cathode: Faithful 2D early-Android nostalgia.
- Studio Deflection: Refined magnetic curvature & cyan filament halo.
- Enhanced Phosphor Overdrive: Hardware-accelerated AGSL GPU optics.
Phosphor Overdrive (Mode 3) Optical Overhaul
- Unconfined Chromatic Breakout: The Red and Cyan electron gun color planes are no longer confined to the picture frame! Crimson gun overshoot now sprays above the top edge and Electric Cyan undershoot bleeds below the bottom edge into the dark glass vacuum.
- Velocity-Coupled Dynamic Kinetic Surge: Chromatic fringes dynamically flare outward with an exaggerated offset during high-speed vertical collapse (anamorphic motion blur effect), then gracefully settle back into a vivid multi-spectral crowning halo framing the equatorial beam.
- Phosphor Excitation Baseline: Guaranteed vibrant chromatic emission even when collapsing dark-mode apps or black status bars.
- Flyback Coil Inductive Micro-Flutter: High-frequency sinusoidal oscillation along the breakout boundary simulating true analog flyback resonance.
Dedicated Settings Page & Analog Noise Controls
- New Settings Screen: Accessible from the 3-dot dropdown menu with a custom Canvas-drawn CRT gear icon and opening chromatic collision feedback.
- Analog Noise & Artifacts Card: Three independent, hardware-persisted toggles for users who prefer a clean, distraction-free interface:
- Header & Button Twitching: Toggle UI chromatic split and convergence flicker.
- High-Voltage Scanline Arcs: Toggle random atmospheric breakdown sparks arching across the glass.
- Electrostatic Touch Static: Toggle micro-spark discharges on finger taps and drags.

CRT Screen-Off Animation v1.1.0
What's New in v1.1.0
-
Full Tablet & Widescreen Experience: Enjoy an expansive workstation layout designed specifically for tablet screens. When rotated to landscape, the interface adapts into a dual-panel studio console with dedicated parameter bays, optimized typography, and fluid entrance transitions tailored for larger displays.
-
Tactile Dual Engine Deck & Master Control: Re-architected engine selection into an intuitive Dual Engine Deck, completely eliminating guesswork between Cyanogen Retro (Mode 1) and Phosphor Overdrive (Mode 2). Each engine now features dedicated parameter isolation, live telemetry status badges, and a master on/off switch to cleanly govern the entire animation pipeline from a single touchpoint.
-
Deflection Dynamics Preset Switcher: Cyanogen Retro mode now features customizable deflection dynamics. Switch effortlessly between Classic Standard—an instantaneous quadratic collapse (
$u^{2.0}$ ) delivering the crisp, nostalgic rhythm of stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread—and Stylized Creep, featuring high-tension magnetic edge-clinging and viscous drag before snapping into the razor slit. Built-in time-coupled multipliers ensure the horizontal beam zip remains punchy, authentic, and locked at ~140 ms in both presets. -
Refined Vertical Collapse Choreography: Both Cyanogen Retro and Phosphor Overdrive modes have received an extensive motion overhaul. The vertical collapse now features a more authentic slow-creep lead-in—subtly clinging to the screen edges before snapping into the horizontal slit—delivering a significantly more physical and tactile CRT shutdown experience.
-
Display-Calibrated Motion & Polish: Adjusted splash sequences and beam dissipation to feel seamless, natural, and balanced across screens of any size.

CRT Screen-Off Animation v1.0.1
What's New in v1.0.1
Animation Physics & Sweep Overhaul
- Bezel-Aligned Horizontal Sweep: Fixed an issue where the horizontal collapse started off-screen (>135% width), causing delayed or invisible horizontal movement. Both engines now collapse visibly from the physical display bezels from frame 1.
- Mode 1 (Cyanogen Retro Engine) Polish:
- Needle-Point Beam Dissipation: Proportional thickness tapering eliminates the stubby "dash" artifact, smoothly pinching the shrinking beam into an infinitesimal sub-pixel needle point that vanishes cleanly into pure OLED blackness.
- Zero-Bounce Organic Deceleration: Replaced hard terminal cutoff with a smooth deceleration curve, eliminating visual recoil/motion bounce.
- Rebalanced Timeline: Dedicated 42% of the timeline to the horizontal zip for silky 120Hz rendering without stutter.
- Solid Luminosity: Beam core and electric cyan halo remain at full solid brilliance throughout the zip without premature fading.
- Mode 2 (Phosphor Overdrive Engine) Polish:
- Expanded the horizontal whip timeline (+31% more frame headroom) to eliminate rapid "teleporting" on fast coil presets.
- Slit hold and multi-line harmonic raster blooms now sit perfectly flush with the screen edges.

When interacting with the settings dashboard, you may notice micro-static visual arcs tracing your fingertips across the AMOLED panel. Please remain calm—it is merely localized harmonic resonance between your screen glass and our virtual cathode-ray tube.
Just kidding! That’s my custom touch-static overlay at work. It's a purely aesthetic homage to the days when touching your TV screen gave you an electrostatic high-five and made the hairs on your forearm stand on end. No rubber-soled shoes required.
Installation & Android 13–16+ First-Time Setup Guide
Because this app is distributed directly via GitHub and utilizes Android's official Accessibility API, modern Android security layers require two quick one-time confirmations during installation:
1. Google Play Protect Warning
Google Play Protect actively flags APKs that are sideloaded outside the Google Play Store. Depending on your Android version and region, follow whichever option appears on your screen:
• Scenario A: Standard Warning ("Install anyway" is visible)
