For testing purposes, please always use the staging server. The address of the Directory site on the staging server is http://umwwebmaster.staging.wpengine.com/directory/.
You should not use the production server until everything has been tested and approved.
You can refer to the plugin's readme to figure out how to retrieve employee information. All of the employee information should be publicly available, so you do not need any type of authentication to retrieve it.
The process for manipulating employee information can be broken down into three basic sections:
- Main employee contact information
- Employee/department relationships
- Employee/building relationships
For most of the procedures you'll be performing, you will need to be an authenticated WordPress user. For testing purposes, we are currently using Basic Auth with a username/password created specifically for this sync process. You may request the username/password combination from the UMW Webmaster to work with this.
To use Basic Auth, you will need to concatenate the username and the password, with a colon in between the two, then base64 encode that entire string. That base64 encoded string should be sent, prefixed with the word Basic as an Authorization header with the request. That would look something like:
Authorization: Basic [base64-encoded-string]
That base64-encoded string should be in the format of username:password (prior to base64-encoding it), with a colon between the username and the password. That entire username:password string should be base64-encoded as a single string.
Each employee is matched up with their appropriate department(s) and building(s) through somewhat complex relationships. In order to update an employee's department or building, you will need to understand the underlying structure of those relationships.
The employee/building relationship is fairly simple, but will require you to search for and retrieve the WordPress data for the desired building before you can update the employee's relationship to that building. That process is outlined in the Employee/Building Relationships document.
The employee/department relationship is much more complex than the employee/building relationship, and is outlined in the Employee/Department Relationships document.
